Whats the most disappointing defeat you've ever watched?
What's the most heartbreaking loss you've ever felt for a fighter when you watched them lose in the ring? For me it had to have been when Manny Pacquiao knocked Ricky Hatton out in 2 rounds earlier this year. Hatton went from defeating Kostya Tszyu to looking like an amatuer against Pacman. Even Mayweather had trouble with him, but Pac just took him out.

I was dissapointed when DLH beat Chavez the first time.It was supposed to be a superfight but it was little more than a one sided spanking that was punctuated by Chavez getting a bad cut early.
The Mexican legend was 33 yrs old and past his best by the time they fought but we often, and often unrealistically, look for fighters of such status to reach deep and turn back the clock in a fight of such magnitude. It wasnt to be that night and to see him get beat like that sucked.

I was a lot more dissapointed when Buster came in a shell of the fighter that beat Mike in his first title defense against Holyfied and was unceremoniously stopped in 3 rds.

Its funny your most heartbreaking moment is my favorite moment. He cheated and wrestled his way into a win against an injured legend, Pac gave him what he deserved hehe. Mine was definatly Roy Jones getting knocked out by Tarver. I got seriously into boxing because of watching Roy Jones HL's. To see an ATG get KO'd by a guy just barely over journeyman status sucked. Especially since Tarver was so smug and clowning him before the fight.

That Roy Jones KO was all-time lulz and I hate Tarver. Tarver is fucking horrible a straight up disgrace and he knocked Roy the FUCK OUT. That's what you get for beating up cans and guys that aren't ready for a whole career Roy... Fight one dude that's not a can or a B-Hop that hasn't hit his stride yet and you swallow your own tongue.

In all fairness Roy was getting on a bit when he got beat.
Im unsure what burnz means by 'cans' on Roys ledger because Roy clearly outboxed and KOed some great fighters thruout his career and was virtually unbeatable in his prime years.

Well he was 15 years into his career before he got whipped. People underrate his compedition, just because there are no Marvin Hagler's or Archie Moore's (Both of whom would have caught a beating against Roy) on his record doesn't mean he fought all bums, thats just lazy uneducated fanboyismz. And I mean who did people want him to fight? Benn and Eubank wouldn't come over and fight him. Benn has said in interviews that Roy "puts the fear of god in him" and Eubank admitted in an interview a few years ago that Roy would have whipped him. Or maybe Thomas Adamek, who couldn't handle Chad Dawson's speed...
The reality is Roy in his prime whips anyone from 168 to 175 in the history of boxing, including Archie Moore, Bob Foster, Michael Spinks, Billy Conn, ect. Roy was a once-in-a-lifetime fighter.

For sure.
At his best he could fire 3-4 quick inside hooks b4 his opponent could respond from the first shot....it was like a blur. I remember when he came to Aust. and fought highly rated Aussie challenger Glenn Kelley in a title defense.Roy just toyed with the best Australia had and in the 7th rd he did that chicken move to Glenn. On the ropes with both hands behind his back he suddenly lept in with a right hook that dumped Kelley on his rear end. Its something u never 4get.

When Gatti lost to Alfonso Gomez. He didn't have one good moment in that fight and you could see him think retirement after the first 2 rounds. The loses to Mayweather and Baldomir sucked bad,but everyone expected him to comeback and take Gomez out.And that fight made him retire.I was depressed for a week.

Sugar Ray Leanard losing to Macho Camacho had to be up there for me.
He was way way past his prime but I still had hope for him. It was also confirmation that he was really done with boxing. Just hard to watch at the time. |
