i dont hate 10th palnet i jsut hate eddie bravo for being a douchebag and the submissions 101 guy for being a fraud...

if i remember correctly the submissions 101 guy lied about getting his belt or something plus in his videos which are fairly widespread compare to other bjj stuff he teaches alot of improper technique

that's where he was wearing a japanese jiu jitsu black belt and teaching BJJ techniques on the internet (with very shitty technique), according to some, he never rolls with others. Supposedly he's a purple "shirt" in 10th planet and recently tested for blue belt in a gi at Keith Owens Academy. In general, the BJJ community dislike him.

YouTube - 10th Planet JJ Grappling Match: Brother vs Brother
You can't possibly be serious?

So I guess Twister Side Control = Reverse Scarf...with maybe a minor modification.

What happens is the kid with the blue shirt tries going to mount from a fundamentally flawed reverse scarf position. The kid on the bottom goes for a typical J-sweep that I use all the time when someone tries to mount me from that position. The J-sweep fails, but the kid with the white shorts is able to carry the momentum and roll him to his right when the kid in blue puts his weight too far forward while trying to solidify his base...Not a very neat sweep at all, just a disruption of balance...not complicated at all to say the least.

As far as Sub101...this is why they suck:
YouTube- Ankle Lock

*The Ankle Lock vid won't let me embed, that's how bad it is. Seriously click it and tell me that would work on anybody with less than 5 minutes grappling experience and you'll still be wrong.

As far as 10th Planet JJ, this is a recent entry I made on another forum about why they suck:

The Rubber Guard
As Ryan Hall explains in his Triangle DVD set: the Rubber Guard is simply a fancy solution to a problem that you create for yourself. By breaking your opponents posture directly on top of you, you are immobilizing your hips. You are essentially sacrificing hip mobility and relying on knee flexibility, which breaks the #1 rule of a sound guard (hip mobility) and can lead to stalling. Another problem; relying on flexibility is equivalent to a big man relying on strength - it's a positive attribute to have, but you should never base your game or a system around it. There is a reason this stuff isn't successful in high level competition - as long as you keep your arms to yourself, when he starts swimming or throwing his leg in front of your face and doing all that wacky crap, all you have to do is posture up.

Scooting your hips out to the side, keeping distance and controlling posture at a superior angle is a much more sound idea. You should have your hips and all the big muscles in your legs pointed at and working against your opponent - why would you ever sacrifice that to play with the weak muscles (and tendons) in your knees - it's not nearly as effective and its an injury waiting to happen. Other than that, you're just asking to get "Tozi" passed...

Lockdown

I went over this before. This position has been in judo for like a century (that's right, Eddie didn't invent it and it's not unique to the 10th Planet system) and the reason a lot of BJJ guys don't teach this stuff is:

- It KILLS hip mobility
- It puts you flat on your back

Those are the 2 things you absolutely want to fundamentally avoid in half guard. With dozens of half guard variations, why would you limit yourself to one, especially the lockdown. It's embarassing that he built a system around it. Another reason it isn't very mainstream is that it requires too much flexibility to work with everyone. If it was that great, more people would be using it...like I said in the other thread; how many electric chairs do you see in competition?

The Twister

Low percentage, not allowed in the majority of nogi competitions...Never seen one in MMA.

All that being said, I find his "Gangsta Lean" to slo-triangle, the "Truck" position and all the "Spiderweb" transitions pretty effective and I use them in my game from time to time. One thing I hate is how he acts like he created the Spiderweb and that hooking your right arm with his left (or vice-versa) so you have the other arm free to hook/trap the legs while going for armbar was some genius invention of his (I've went to a seminar of his in Toronto - he kept going on and on about it.)

The things that set 10th Planet apart are just flawed fundamentals and crap, but some of the other things the system is less known for seem to work pretty well. Mind you, the things that work are by no means anything original or unique to the system, but he has done a good job expanding/organizing some concepts and ideas.
