Why is Bj number 1 P4P??

Cuz he is the only fighter i can think of that has fought from LW all the way to HW. The only division he hasnt fought in is 205. Let's see fuckin matt hughes or Gsp grow some balls and fight much bigger guys. They never would cuz they dont have the balls and they are to worried about their records. Basically Bj has more balls than any fighter out there and is P4P number one not for his record, but for his weight class jumping and quality competition.

Agreed, but his skills play a big part in this unofficial title too. How many people stuff Matt Hughes' takedowns with ease? If he shows up in shape, he will be very difficult to beat.

I'm 160lbs and I've got the balls to fight at any weight class. Does this mean I'm one of the top P4P fighters in the world? Murilo Ninja has fought at HW, 205, and 185, maybe he can be your hero too. Yes, BJ has faced top competition but he has been beaten by some of them. So I don't really agree with you ranking him above GSP or Hughes. By the way, did you ever hear GSP or Hughes say that they were scared to face bigger fighters or they were worried about their record? I haven't.

I'm not taking anything away from Penn, I think hes one of the top fighters in the world without a doubt. I just think your reasoning is fucked.

hes not no1 on many non-nuthuggers lists

hes in top3 for most though, but i dont see why he's ahead of GSP if/until he beats him and wins the WW title. Before then, its like saying CC is better than Fedor - not impossible but needs to be shown.

anyway, doesnt dominate WW division which is probably his best weight. Fedor does. So he's clearly p4p a better fighter, but then again, yes a bear does piss in the woods, its common knowledge.

    my list:

    Fedor
    GSP
    BJ Penn
    Cro Cop
    Chuck

If he comes back and wins some LW or WW fights I will reconsider him for #1 p4p but as of now I would put Kid up there.

Agreed, but with the recent losses to GSP and Hughes he cannot be considered P4P #1 anymore. But before he hit the recent slump, he was pretty much the defintion of Pound for Pound greatness.

Right, his reasoning was kinda fucked. Penn was #1 P4P not because he had the balls to fight in different weightclasses, it was because of the success he had. Courage doesn't mean shit unless you're winning. To jump up 15 lbs and embarrass a guy who was considered to be P4P top 3 in the world at the time, a guy who was such a dominant force in the weightclass was just an unbelievable achievement. And to go up 30lbs above your original weightclass and beat some solid opposition, that always helps. And then for a 155lber to go up to Heavyweight and put on a good show against a solid opponent, that is just incredible IMO.

I agree he's a great fighter, I don't know him, he might even be a good guy but I think his time is up. He's been away for far too long. It'll take him a while for him to come back.

I love BJ, but he is not #1 P4P. He is amazingly versatile and can fight at different weight classes, but that doesn't mean he is the best.

Also, didn't he fight Machida at 205?

Yamamoto is not a bad choice for P4P, neither is Fedor, and as much as I hate to say it, possibly Filho.

If Fedor was Penn's size I think he would be just as good, and he has the accomplishments and record to back it up. Penn is unbelievable and possibly has the most potential to be p4p the greatest. But after losing to Hughes and GSP, how is he better p4p than them? He is only 15 lbs lighter, so I think some of you are taking too much of a weight factor into account. Yes, he is great... But, he is not the best fighter p4p on the planet right now, that is for sure.

He went the distance with two Gracies. Lost to the two big guys at 170, lost to Machida. He has some unreal wins, but that doesn't make up for some subpar performances. The guy is not easy to beat at ANY WEIGHT though.

Being in shape is his own fault. You have to train cardio just like you do any other skills you have. CARDIO is part of the sport.

    Fedor isn't P4P the best!

    It's KID, Gomi, Penn, GSP...

He is number 1 in skills wise IMO.
His fists pack Dynamite, jiu-jitsu is deadly, Wrestling is awesome, hell, even Randy couture had trouble keeping Penn down, as well as taking him down. and this is when BJ was 160, and randy was 220, His reflexes are just incredible, can't be hit, flexible, natural talent, strong, speed, agile, GNP is above average, great takedowns, etc..

    Negatives=cardio.
