Jon Jones about UFC 151: "I can't put my career and livelyhood on the line."

just in case anybody hasn't heard this interview yet:

    http://www.mmafighting.com/2012/9/4/...he-felt-like-a

a few minutes in the says that he can't take the risk of putting his career and livelyhood on the line. are you fucking kidding me? every time this guy opens his mouth he says something dumber than last time. jones is the LHW CHAMPION! putting his career and record on the line to defend his belt is EXACTLY what he is supposed to be doing!

fighters get paid to fight, and with that comes the risk of losing. apparently he thinks he should be able to hand-pick opponents now that he is champ. go talk to any other UFC champion, and they'll tell you that they'll fight whoever the UFC puts in front of them at any time because they want to test themselves.

jones has skills for sure, but after hearing this i think it's quite clear that he doesn't have the heart of a champion and doesn't think like one. he needs to learn to just STFU because every time he tries to explain himself he makes it look even worse.

Jones trained for Henderson and didn't want to fight someone else without the time to properly prepare. Nothing wrong with saying 'no' in a situation like that - as long as you have the power to do so - which he obviously does.

This dude is even worse than the jury foreman in the apple vs Samsung trial. Some people really should just STFU.

Shogun should have said no to Jones when Rashad dropped out.

Yes, then Jones would not have wrecked his Bently. He would have wrecked his Broham instead.

Exactly. All you people who are hating on Jones have been duped by Dana (I am not saying Jones doesn't deserve any scorn). Dana managed to put 100% of the blame on Jones' back, which is absolutely ridiculous. The UFC should have contingency plans in place. The UFC didn't even offer Jones compensation in any form to make the fight happen, they just expected him to step up and take on all of the burden.

Oh look, it's not just Jones' fault anymore, Hendo is to blame too, but not the UFC:

I really can see a lot of blame that can be shifted or spread out, its just that in most cases a replacement fighter could have been thrown in and a fight could have ensued.

The three problems that could of solved this fiasco.

    1) Hendo letting Dana know much earlier about the knee. This could of gave Zuffa and the Jones camp as well as the new opponent time to prepare.
    2) UFC not banking a whole PPV on one fight. Looks like they are working towards correcting that. The next set of events are decently stacked.
    3) Jones being a fighting champ and remembering he wouldnt of been champ this early in his career if he didnt step up and take a short notice fight vs Shogun.

My only argument is that Dana and the UFC needs to take some of the blame. In-fact, they should be taking most of the blame. Instead they want to cast it elsewhere and accept no responsibility whatsoever, which is a joke. If I hire a company to provide me a service and their employee(s) bails out on them for whatever reason, it's the company that is ultimately responsible. That's how things work in the real world. In these types of situations the company will usually get another one of their employees, who is off, to come in and work, or look outside the company and find a replacement. Either way, the person will receive additional compensation. The company would expect this, but not the UFC. They expect their fighters to "step up and fight because that is who they are, fighters".

Shogun did fight Jones on short notice, but he had 6 weeks to prepare. That's not the same as 8 days. This was a very unique case, but one that was bound to happen.

We definitely have a right to be displeased with Jones and now Hendo too, but we also should be very displeased with the UFC.

How do you know they did not offer to compensate Jones for taking the fight? I don't think anyone has been duped by Dana, most know if was not all Jones fault. What they are hating on him for as well as many other fighters and managers and coaches was for turning down the short notice fight with a middle weight who did not have a full camp and had just as much notice to prepare for the fight as Jones did. Very few has defended him on that, sure some have but the majority of fans ,fighter managers , coaches, ECT. have not. He seem to have forgotten how he got a title shot he was not in line for.

Yeah that was what i was eluding to with my second point. Maybe it didnt come out correctly. They should bank so much on one fight. So many injures these days, there is almost a guarantee an event will have to scratch a fight or add a replacement fighter.

I'm surprised they went this long before a guy hurt himself so close to fight-night. They had a good run.
