Jamie Varner Gets the Call to Face Joe Lauzon at UFC on Fox 4

Short notice worked well for Jamie Varner‘s return to the UFC, so why not try it twice?

The former WEC champion who stormed back into the UFC with a knockout victory over previously undefeated fighter Edson Barboza at UFC 146 will now take another short notice fight as he steps in to face Joe Lauzon at UFC on Fox 4 on Aug 4.

UFC officials announced the new match-up on late Wednesday night.

Following his exit from the WEC after 2010, Varner toiled around several regional promotions and actually contemplated retirement before revamping his career by joining the MMA Lab and his old team at Arizona Combat Sports.

The rejuvenation plan worked as Varner stomped two opponents in a row before shocking the world with his first round knockout over Edson Barboza.

Now Varner will take another short notice fight as he faces Joe Lauzon at UFC on Fox 4, following the departure of his original opponent Terry Etim when he was claimed by injury.

Varner meets Lauzon on the undercard of the UFC on Fox 4 show taking place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Aug 4.

I dont think this will be good for Joe. Lauzon seems like his is dancing on the edge of becoming a very good fighter but just cant quite get there.

Some fights he looks awesome, other times he gets lit up land blasted.

One thing for sure he comes to fight.

I would say he is, but maybe Barboza under-estimated(I did too) Varner. I think J-Lau wont make the same mistake.

That's the way I see it. Lauzon always brings it, but if this fight makes it past the first varners chances go up.

I got Varner by the 2nd. "1st Round Lauzon" will be tough for Varner, but I have a feeling he will light him up in the 2nd.

i still think varner is too much for 1st rd lauzon. good chin, and wayy stronger. but i sense that varner's doucheass psyche might be the one to underestimate lauzon and get sub in rd1. only way jlau wins is by sub. imo
