PS3: Repair or Purchase New System?

Them -- I'm gonna get a new one though, the price isn't that bad, no matter how Sony gets the system but a new one it is. The HDD is low on space, there's about 11GBs on it. An upgrade to over 200GB will be very nice, as well as another controller.

i have a lot of fine tools for electronics and have found these consoles to be child's play as far as repair. click on some forums or youtube and fix it yourself in an afternoon.

I have no tolls for the job. Repairing the issue still leaves me with a HDD with little space, something in itself that needs to be addressed.

you could probably find the right bits for under $10 bucks at home depot.

you've got nothing to lose, worst case scenario you have to buy the new console you kinda wanted anyway.

late to the party, but buy a new one. A slim is quite cheap anyway plus you'll get much more space than your 80Gb. Mine's the same era 2009, I've upgraded it to 320Gb after the hack. I rarely have the time to play nowadays so its still works quite well. Usually I just watch movies with it anyway.

Sent mine in for the hd crashing. I e-mailed Sony and they sent me a box to ship it in. Took less than a week, got a new hd, and only paid $110. Talk to Sony about it and get it done right. You dont get anything for it breaking but you do get a 1 year warranty.
