how did you engrave the pattern and what was the treatment that made the colour change?

You put the pattern onto the leather by laying the tracing paper over it and re-tracing the design with a dead ballpoint pen. You use a dead one so if you poke through the paper you won't mark up the leather.

The color change was from leather dye.. I forgot I was taking pics of the project so I missed a couple steps in my post.

Initially, it's the ballpoint pen just to make an impression, then its gone over with a swivel knife. It's in one of the photos. Look at the top 2 pieces. The one on the left has just the pen impression, the one on the right has been cut. This is a very basic design with not much actual tooling.
