    I have some to add.

Is this OS good for anything besides learning to tinker with an OS or hack?

Cause I always find myself going back to Windows for the sweet-sweet fullscreen flash videos that consume so much of our days.

I can see flash videos full screen just fine. You can't?

choppy as all hell on Linux (Mint--and it comes with all the codecs, too). Hulu is atrocious in fullscreen, even youtube. I've even seen weird stuff like, download a divx movie, play it in VLC in windows with fullscreen it works fine.....play the same file in VLC in fullscreen in Linux it's a no-go. It gives me some kind of weird too-thin widescreen. Also, I have a VGA cable that connects my computer to my TV and it says "not readable" or something when I try to have Linux on my TV to watch videos. One time it didn't give me that error, as if for no reason. As if it just felt like being "nice". I hadn't tinkered with anything that I knew of.

I am dual-booting Linux just because I have a small little nerd inside me who is interested in some stuff like this. I dabble just a bit in programming, and I decided to try Linux just for weird-geek fun. What I find is that it is somethign of a nerd's dream, but the day to day convenience of this thing just blows. If I just want to get something done, or enjoy something without hunting through forums, it's windows by default.

I think the out-of-the-box experience of Linux could be improved a lot. Distros like Mint are nice for this, but even then I just want some freaking CONVENIENT (not switch to a media player...yada, yada, workaround) fullscreen flash.

I posted a fix for teh flash issues somewhere.

The too thin widescreen might have to do with wrong config for your screen. Run SAX2 to fix.
