Basically between going in the ground and that being it versus rotting in hell for an eternity I choose the ground.

God created Satan so obviously he could destroy him he simply chooses not to. God allows evil to exist not because it needs to because in the beginning there was only god the father god the son and god the holy ghost. That's before the heavens, satan, earth, everything. God is himself the greatest good and the greatest evil because he brought evil into the world.
This is part of the reason I am not of the christian faith anymore.

And lastly why do you assume Lucifer is God's enemy? Enemies are usually disliked, but if God disliked Lucifer wouldn't he do something about him?

It would be far greater to be nothing than and out of the reach of gods wrath as his worst enemy, refusing to every yield to the creator from whose image you have been plucked is a fate worst than drowning in a pool of lava, never being consumed by its fire but choking to its rocky magma. gods worst enemy would forever be consumed by the idea of not being the greatest and most powerful being in the universe... constant state of both feeling insignificant and obsolete.
