I got fined by eBay because a guy offered to buy something from me outside the site and i didn't even sell the item

Well I’m not sure how you were fined unless you led on you were going to sell. Always remember that eBay reads your messages. That works to your advantage sometimes. If someone even hints about leaving negative feedback I rope them into saying it.. then it would never stick.

Call eBay, have them read your messages and refund you.

I was about to sell it, but when the guy didnt want to meet at the day and time I wanted (he wanted to come over in like 30 minutes maybe sooner), he didnt want to buy it. Because of my job, arranging for pickups is really inconvenient, not to mention dangerous.

I tell you who not to ask...Sub Zero. Guy has been selling used pajamas for 0.50 cents for 12 years trying to move to Syria to escape American prejudice.

Here’s a prime example on why and how to research the value of an item.

I saw this at a Goodwill yesterday and I figured it needed to be looked up.

This is what I found..

Here's my price..

Most people would grab that ashtray and head to the checkout as fast as they can.. not squirrel.

That is an 'asking price' from one seller. Too many people at yard sales, thrift stores, estate sales will print off the eBay listings and tape them to the item showing you how expensive the items are.. OR as it seems in this case, this one fell through the cracks and they missed it because they are all minimum wage teens that just don't give a shit, really. This is how I make some nice coin on the side.. inexperienced thrift store personnel.

Not so fast....

We don't need to know how much people are asking for the item.. we need to know how much it SOLD for in the past. You need to search the same item > completed/sold listings > sorted highest price to lowest. Find the 2-3 highest in the list and average out the price. That's about what you can expect to resell for.

The verdict in this case.. walk away unless you're buying it for yourself and not looking to resell.
