Just before Jake Shields moved to the UFC, Cesar Graicie Jiu-Jitsu was in possession of 60% of all Strikeforce titles in the men's division. With Feijao's win over King Mo, it seems like they're tied with Blackhouse in the Strikeforce/WEC/UFC belt race. However, anyone would be hard-pressed to tally the total number of belts in this picture that surfaced this month. I can make out the Diaz brothers, Miller brothers, Court McGee, Jake Shields and next to a guy that resembles Joe Soto appears to be the UFC lightweight champion, Frankie Edgar. If that is Frankie, this may be the first time we've seen belt holders from Bellator, UFC and Strikeforce in one picture. History has been made.
But It was really hard to get fights with other organizations, so my manager said: ‘We haven’t fought in a long time, we can’t wait any longer. It’s time to call up the UFC.’ He made the call, made Dana White an offer and we went to Vegas. We took two fighters with us and Dana watched me standing with those two fighters and doing Jiu-Jitsu with another two heavyweight athletes. He liked what he saw and told me I was in the UFC.”
“I’ve practiced MMA for three years and worked on my standup game a lot. I always use my wrestling in fights, even when I’m going for the knockout.

There is no place for God in theories on the creation of the Universe, Professor Stephen Hawking has said.
He had previously argued belief in a creator was not incompatible with science but in a new book, he concludes the Big Bang was an inevitable consequence of the laws of physics.
The Grand Design, part serialised in the Times, says there is no need to invoke God to set the Universe going.
"Spontaneous creation is the reason there is something," he concluded.
'Planetary conditions'
In his new book, an extract of which appears in the Times, Britain's most famous physicist sets out to contest Sir Isaac Newton's belief that the universe must have been designed by God as it could not have sprung out of chaos.
Citing the 1992 discovery of a planet orbiting a star other than our Sun, he said: "That makes the coincidences of our planetary conditions - the single Sun, the lucky combination of Earth-Sun distance and solar mass - far less remarkable, and far less compelling as evidence that the Earth was carefully designed just to please us human beings."
He adds: "Because there is a law such as gravity, the universe can and will create itself from nothing.
"Spontaneous creation is the reason there is something rather than nothing, why the universe exists, why we exist.
"It is not necessary to invoke God to light the blue touch paper and set the universe going."
The book was co-written by US physicist Leonard Mlodinow and is published on 9 September.

by by Fraser Coffeen

Here's a fight I am glad to be able to share with you all because I honestly wasn't sure if it would be made available. This is Artur Kyshenko's fight last night at the SportAccord Combat Games 2010 in Beijing. It's a semi-final fight in the 71kg division in Muay Thai. Muay Thai rules, with 4 rounds and headgear. His opponent is Teerapong Dee from Thailand. Wish I could tell you more about Teerapong, but I am not familiar with him.

The video starts towards the end of round 2, and is complete from there.

Watching this fight, one of the things that most jumps out at me is how well Teerapong reads Kyshenko. He seems constantly one step ahead, so that even when Kyshenko is pushing forward, Teerapong is the one scoring first and defending whatever Kyshenko throws against him. As for Kyshenko, he looks somewhat tentative, not quite committing to his strikes fully or using enough movement. I'm not trying to take anything away from Teerapong, who looked great here, but this is not Kyshenko at his finest.

Which begs the question - is Kyshenko simply holding back a bit here because of the setting, or is this a problem we're going to see crop up again in Kyshenko's performances? The MAX Grand Prix will be a telling event for Kyshenko and will say a lot about where he stands.
Ken Shamrock's next fight has been signed and it will be against Johnathan Ivey for the USA MMA promotion on Oct. 16 in Lafayette, La.

MMAFighting.com learned Wednesday from sources close to the event the Shamrock vs. Ivey headliner as well as the co-main event, Ricco Rodriguez vs. Mike Perez.

The always-controversial UFC Hall of Famer Shamrock (27-14-2) made news again in June when he signed to face fellow UFC veteran Pedro Rizzo at Impact FC 2 and admitted to the use of steroids during his career on HDNet's Fighting Words. Shamrock went on to lose in a sad outing to Rizzo on July 18 by way of TKO due to leg kicks. Shamrock has lost eight of his last 10 fights dating back to February 2002.

Shamrock's opponent, Ivey (29-42), is a heavyweight who has been around the sport since 1998. Ivey holds a laundry list of losses to UFC veterans in Jeremy Horn, Travis Wiuff, Ben Rothwell, Justin Eilers, Dan Severn, Jake O'Brien, Ricco Rodriguez, Gan McGee and Sam Hoger. His list of losses even includes a future UFC veteran, as his most recent fight this past May was a TKO loss to Sean McCorkle, who is set to make his UFC debut later this month at UFC 119. Ivey might be most notable for actually landing a "People's Elbow" in a mixed martial arts bout.

Rodriguez, a former UFC heavyweight champion, is currently on a nine-fight win streak as he continues to campaign towards another run with the UFC.

As the article states, Ivey is the chubby dude who landed a people's elbow back in the day. He also has some wicked leg locks and is rather explosive for a fat man. This should be a great fight if it gets to the ground. I think they should both be allowed to wear pancrase boots.

PS

The SportAccord Combat Games are taking place this week in Beijing. We reported on these games over the summer, which feature a wide array of talent in various combat sports competing for their country a la the Olympics. The most anticipated line-up is in the Muay Thai competition where a number of top stars are taking part in the games, including Artur Kyshenko, Marcus Oberg, Yodsaenklai Fairtex, and Thor Hoopman (both Buakaw and Saenchai were originally slated to fight but have since dropped out).

The event is broken into a number of weight classes, with quarter finals taking place earlier this week on the 29th, semi-finals earlier today, and the finals set for Thursday. Key results so far:

The biggest news is that, for the second time in a month, Artur Kyshenko has been defeated. Kyshenko turned in a great showing in the 71kg quarter finals, but was upset by Thai fighter Teerapong Dee in the semi-final round when Kyshenko lost a unanimous decision. Not sure what is going on with Kyshenko right now, but this is not what he needs before the MAX Grand Prix.

Elsewhere in the 71kg division, Marcus Oberg defeated Zhang Xiao Long in the semi-finals, setting up an Oberg v. Dee final.

In the 75kg division, Yodsaenklai was dominant on night one. In the semi-finals, he was again victorious with a 4-1 decision victory over Vasyl Tereshonok. Yod will face Artem Levin in the finals in what should be a very good fight.

Finally, Australian K-1 veteran Thor Hoopman faced Dzianis Hancharonak in the 91kg semi-final. Hoopman fell via unanimous decision, and Hancharonak will now face Wen Zhong Wang in the finals. Early reports are that this was a questionable decision and that it looked like Hoopman was the clear winner.

by Justin Faux

The state of mixed martial arts in Japan has been questioned amongst keyboard warriors for several years since the fall of the revolutionary Pride FC organization.

Fighting and Entertainment Group (FEG) are the leading provider of combat sports in the land of the rising sun—they are the parent company behind the largest kick boxing organization in the world, K-1, as well as DREAM.

It has been apparent for quite some time that financial difficulties have been a big problem for FEG.

Gary Goodridge, Andy Souwer, and current DREAM Bantamweight champion Bibiano Fernandes are just a few who have stepped up to the plate and told the fight media that they have not been paid for their past performances.

The signs continued to add up when FEG cancelled their DREAM 17 event that was scheduled to take place on October 25 in South Korea—also no dates have been announced for the K-1 MAX events rumoured for 2010.

At this point and time FEG only has two upcoming events—DREAM 16 on September 25 and their annual Dynamite event schedule for New Year's Eve.

Mike Kogan, the United States representative for FEG, conducted an interview with MMAJunkie.

After months of denial on the part of FEG management, Kogan is the first to step up and admit that the organization is in a large hole of financial problems and the future of the company rests on a deal with PUJI Capital.

According to Kogan, PUJI Capital are attempting to provide $230 million for the fight organization, which would allow them to pay back the hundreds of thousands of dollars owed to fighters and have them back in business for 2011.
For the investors to accumulate the cash total suggested it could take quite some time, and if the deal falls through, well I can let you figure out the outcome there.

As a fan of DREAM since its inception I would be incredibly disappointed to see it disappear, especially with organizations like World Victory Road who bring us Sengoku rumoured to be in a financial bind as well.

It seems the state of the sport in Japan is at its worst.

DREAM will close the year with only two titles remaining and pray that PUJI Capital are able to summon the large amount of money to pull them out of their current hole, but for now I suggest not holding your breath.

Strikeforce fighter Brett Rogers (10-2) will meet fellow heavyweight Ruben "Warpath" Villareal (18-18-3) at an October event in Canada.

The W-1 MMA organization hosts the show, "W-1: New Ground," on Oct. 23 at the Halifax Forum in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

The organization recently announced the 11-bout fight card for the show, and a Strikeforce official confirmed with MMAjunkie.com that Rogers received permission to compete at the event.

Rogers looks to rebound from a pair of losses – the first of his career – that came in a pair of high-profile Strikeforce bouts. In a highly anticipated and CBS-televised event in November, he suffered a second-round TKO loss to Fedor Emelianenko. Then in May, he suffered a title loss to champ Alistair Overeem via first-round TKO.

Prior to the defeats, Rogers went 10-0 with 10 stoppages via strikes. All but one ended in the first round.

Rogers now meets Villareal, who's competed with organizations ranging from Strikeforce to KOTC to Gladiator Challenge. The seven-year pro recently saw his three-fight win streak (his longest since starting his career with a 4-0 mark) come to an end with a submission loss to Strikeforce/EliteXC vet Mike Cook.

Despite a sub.-500 career mark, Villareal has fought a who's who of MMA notables, including Ricco Rodriguez, Don Frye, Antonio Silva, Bas Rutten, Dan Severn, Paul Buentello and Tim Hague.

While most of the undercard is filled with Canadian fighters, "The Ultimate Fighter 11" cast member Jamie Yager (2-2) also competes and takes on fellow middleweight and undefeated Jeremiah Hamilton (6-0) on the W-1 card.

"That's the main reason I came to MMA. At least MMA guys got guts and they will get in a cage with me. The boxing guys are all talk and no walk. My thing is, all of these bums, David Gaye and Bucktooth Bernard Hopkins, talk all that shit; come and see me! They were quiet as mice until they saw I was signed to fight in the UFC and then they all had an opinion. I'm doing both and I ain't going nowhere. I'm in it for the long run baby. I'm the only two sport athlete out there and I'm doing the 2 most dangerous sports in the world. No other man will try to do that."

"Man, the fans in MMA are great. These motherfucking fans are...they fanatics man. It's great. I love the atmosphere that they bring. It reminded me of the old days of boxing; the 70's, 80's and early 90's. Boxing fans used to be like that and we need to bring that back. The MMA scene is so crazy and it's great. The fans stand in the hotel lobby from early in the morning until late at night. They are there when you wake up in the morning and they are there when you go to bed and that's fucking crazy. I love that shit. It was crazy man... I had a lot of support out there in Boston. They are a fight town and a couple of them actually remembered me from when I fought Ramon Garbey out there 10 years ago. It was great. I mean, 20,000 fans man? That's crazy. They showed me so much love in that city. I can't wait to go back."

"I knew Dana was trying to throw me to the dogs, but I wanted that. In fact, he didn't throw me to the dogs; I went looking for them. I went looking for trouble. That's why they call me JT, "Just Trouble." I loved it. I had fun in there and I can't wait to do it again."

--James Toney (0-1 MMA), seems to have genuinely enjoyed his UFC experience and wants another crack at it. Too bad Dana White doesn't seem to want him back anymore. If, or when, he gets released, I wonder how long before another promotion decides to place that phone call... or if any of them can afford his paycheck.

Winston Churchill, Jimmy Carter, Albert Einstein, Richard Nixon, the Queen of England, Henry Kissinger, the Dalai Lama, Mother Teresa, Bobby Kennedy, Stephen Hawking, Richard Dawkins, Clint Eastwood.

And UFC president Dana White?

Joining a long list of some of history's most influential figures, White will address Oxford University's famed Oxford Union Society in October, UFC officials today announced.

White's visit to the British university, which is the oldest among the English-speaking world, comes Oct. 13, three days before White and Co. host "UFC 120: Bisping vs. Akiyama" at The 02 in London.

"It is a great honor to be invited to address the Oxford Union," White stated. "Anyone who knows anything about me knows I always speak my mind and am very passionate about what I do, and the Oxford Union was founded on exactly those principles. I'm looking forward to meeting the students, and I know they have a reputation for asking tough questions and expecting straight answers from their guests. That's exactly what they'll get from me."

The Oxford Union widely is regarded as the most famous and prestigious student society in the world. Founded in 1823, it provides a forum for free speech and debate. Guest speakers include some of the top leaders from the political, scientific, business, philanthropic, entertainment and sports worlds.

White's visit also will include meetings with the historic Oxford Union Library and the Oxford Entrepreneurs.

UFC 120 will be the 10th UFC event hosted in the U.K. and the ninth in England. The U.S.-based promotion first visited England in 2002, but under its current ownership ground, really became part of the UFC's expansion plans in 2006 with the opening a dedicated U.K. office. UFC 120 also marks the organization's first international UFC Fan Expo, a two-day trade show and fan festival that precedes the weekend's Spike TV-televised event.

"Quotable"

“I take what Dana said as a compliment because I think he really believes in my skills as a fighter,” Florian told MMA Fighting via email Monday morning. “I was capable of winning the fight but I would have to have fought a very boring fight. I felt great mentally & physically. I have more work to do on my wrestling & have already made the arrangements to become much better in that area of my game. “Gray out wrestled me. I didn’t crumble. I have won many main events & important fights. I blame my weakness in wrestling on the loss, not my mental game. I thought my defensive wrestling would have been enough but it wasn’t. I will be working with high level wrestlers on a ridiculously consistent basis to improve this. I need to 10X more than I was to ensure that it is not only muscle memory but so I can prevent losing in this manner in the future.”
props / mmafighting.com

"In one of the first cases of its kind, Karly Rossiter, 28, sued her former beau, saying he gave her HPV, the virus that causes cervical cancer."

"When Rossiter took the stand, she told the jury about how Evans first won her over. She spoke of the call in which he suggested she get checked for HPV, her diagnosis, her stressful symptoms, the warts she thought she saw on his penis, the other women she suspected. She described how she’d had warts burned off repeatedly and how they still kept coming, and she lamented how she’d now have to tell every man she ever dated about her condition and hope he’d still want to see her. She reminded them that she could develop cervical cancer. She also provided evidence that her insurer at the time was dropping her, not just from cervical cancer coverage but from all cancer coverage, due to her HPV."

Aspiring mixed martial artists find few better places to establish themselves than in the fight capitol of the world, Las Vegas.

Once you're established, though, it's nice to get a break from the hum of Sin City.

That's why the fighters of Team Takedown, one of the sport's more unique management firms, recently told MMAjunkie.com Radio (www.mmajunkie.com/radio) that they're turning over a new leaf in the Lone Star State.

"We want everything right there where we're at," Team Takedown co-founder Ted Erhardt said. "That's because now we're really going to push forward and start to grow this thing that we've seen is proven."

Erhardt said the team plans to move its base of operations from Vegas to a 30,000 square-foot training center in Arlington, Texas. Takedown coach Marc Laimon is also relocating and plans to coach the team's fighters while opening a satellite branch of his Las Vegas-based Cobra Kai jiu-jitsu academy within the center.

"I think we're in a situation now where it's the right time to grow and expand the brand," Laimon said.

Team Takedown took root in March 2007 when it signed collegiate wrestling standouts Jake Rosholt, Johny Hendricks and Shane Roller to seven-year management deals. In a model unique to MMA, team members earn a salary and have their living and training expenses paid in exchange for half of their fight earnings. It costs about $450,000 per year to support each fighter, according to Erhardt.

The fighters have found modest success in the transition from wrestling to MMA. Rosholt (7-2) is rebuilding after a three-fight stint in the UFC in which a win over the hot-and-cold Chris Leben was sandwiched in between losses to Kendall Grove and Dan Miller. Roller (8-3 MMA, 5-2 WEC) earned a top spot in the WEC's lightweight division but twice has fallen short in title eliminator matches, most recently against red-hot Anthony Pettis earlier this month at WEC 50.

So far, Hendricks (9-0 MMA, 4-0 UFC) is the breakout star of the group and holds an unblemished record, which includes a four-fight win streak in the UFC.

However, thanks in part to Team Takedown, they've all found success on the sport's biggest stages much more quickly than most MMA newcomers.

Erhardt said, theoretically, the company needs just one of its fighters to make it to the UFC's upper echelons in order to be profitable.

"Our hopes and our projections are starting to come around now, where the guys are going to start making enough money where they're paying for themselves and paying back to Team Takedown so that we can add on some younger guys," he said. "We're going to add on some really solid wrestlers in the future.

"There's a couple more investors, so we're really going to try to up the size of Team Takedown."

Erhardt said he's also working on getting Las Vegas-based striking coach Ken Hahn to make the move to Texas in the near future.

Laimon said he's turned down several offers to train fighters outside of Las Vegas but believes Team Takedown is the right fit.

"Going to Texas and working with these guys, it's unbelievable," Laimon said. "You've seen how Johnny and Jake and (Jake's brother and three-time All-American wrestler) Jared (Rosholt) have been progressing, and it's a dream come true."

Why so mad at Randy?

Seriously though. What is your beef with the guy? From a few of the posts I've read of yours(other posters as well) with regaurds to Randy you've said he's on the sauce, that everyone "hoped" Toney was gonna ktfo him, that he does "ultimate fighting, he's over-rated/hyped, etc... To clear the air, I'm not grasping any nutsack in this thread nor am I hating on lance. Yeah I am fan of randys, and have been for a while. Some of the things you say are a lil over dramatic tho bud.

I've always thought it's chicken shit to hate on something because so many other ppl(noob & douche alike) became a fan of it. Big fuckin deal. It's one thing to not be a fan and another to hate on it for a reason like that.

Dana does use Randy as one of the poster ufc poster boys... ALOT. His record also really isn't the greatest by a long shot. He isn't very exciting to watch most of the time. I supose reason enough to not be a fan right?

BUT, he's always a game fighter and has the potential to give any body a good run. He doesn't ever come under prepared. He has better than average skills in many facets of the game and he isn't out there acting like 75% of the douchebag ufc fighters are. He just snuffed a chance for a champion boxer, over the hill...fat...punch drunk...whatever people want to call it... Nonetheless the fact remains, a fuckin BOXING HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONS chance at coming into mma and making the fighter and the fans look like fools. SNUFFED!

Dude I'm a fuckin major disciple of MMA, and all combat sports including my base "Boxing". For the rest of you that claim the same beliefs, if anything just by belonging to this mma community forum, I thinks it's pretty lame to hate on a guy that's backing up his sport.

As for the juice,

all of us here have this suspicion, even if it's really REALLY small it's still there, that overeem is on performance enhancers. Does it sway any of our desire to see him fight fedor?.... FUCK NO IT DOES NOT. It shouldn't matter if somebody is or not, IMO. I want to see athlete perform above the "average" mans athletic level. Just like everyone else does.

Thoughts?... Discuss.

BOSTON – You can call it the end of an era.

Granted, that era lasted all of three minutes and 19 seconds, but it's still over.

After James Toney (0-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) was forced to tap out (or wave out, if you choose to be technical) in the first round of his UFC 118 contest with Randy Couture on Saturday night at Boston's TD Garden, White said he's done with boxers making their way to the organization – no matter who it is.

"I thought we answered this question in 1993, but James came out and he picked a fight," White said. "We answered the question again in 2010. I don't think it needs to be answered again. I don't care if it's (Floyd) Mayweather or anybody else."

It was in 1993 that a boxer appeared in the very first UFC event. Art Jimmerson's infamous one-gloved approach to the fight is an iconic image in the history of the sport.

Melton Bowen would later appear at UFC 4, where he was defeated by Steve Jennum.

Toney, of course, is one of boxing's all-time greats. But at 43 years old and 70 pounds heavier than he was at the time his illustrious prizefighting career began, "Lights Out" was simply too advanced in age to begin a real run at mixed martial arts success.

But White says he's not even interested in hiring a top boxer in his prime because single-disciplined fighters simply can't win in MMA.

"It's unfair to bring a guy in with one discipline, no matter if he's trained for eight or nine months," White said. "I wasn't the guy going out there and trying to badmouth boxing and take boxing down and hurt the sport of boxing. James Toney picked a fight, and he got one.

"I don't see [other boxers] ever doing that, coming out and whatever. James Toney is the guy that's crazy enough to come out and do this. He picked a fight, he got one, and we won't be doing any more boxing."

From the very day the fight was announced, White openly called the contest a "freak show." But the UFC boss admitted than even though he felt confident his Hall of Fame fighter would defeat Toney, as Saturday night approached, he became more and more tense.

"I didn't try to sell this thing as 'Tune in on Saturday night, and you're going to see the most spectacular battle or war,'" White said. "I basically said what I was hoping would happen. Anything can happen in a fight.

"We're not after boxing. We're not trying to attack boxing. I love boxing, and I thought this question was answered back in 1993, but I've got to be honest. As we got closer to the fight, my stomach hurt, and I was a little dizzy. I was nervous. Mixed martial arts stepped in there against a boxer, but at the end of the day, it's a fight. Anything can happen in a fight."

Some MMA observers believed a loss for Couture would have been catastrophic for the sport. White said his nervousness was based on something entirely different.

"What was I nervous about?" White asked MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com). "That I'd have to deal with James Toney for the next year.

"It's been a fun ride with James. It's been very interesting. He's a nutty guy. I was nervous for that fight."

White made it clear he didn't want any of his comments regarding Toney to be considered a sign of disrespect. Instead, he held praise for the boxer even though he did duck out an a scheduled appointment at the evening's post-fight presser.

"He's a tough guy, and he's been around for a long time, and I love him," White said. "I have a lot of respect for James Toney. When you come in with one discipline, you can't expect the guy to come in and have great ground work. You know what? He stepped up. He wanted to do it, and he did it.

"He hung in there longer than I thought he would. I'm sure he was as prepared as he could be. Anybody that knows James Toney over the past few years knows that James isn't the most physically fit boxer on the planet. But let me tell you what, when I signed him in my office, he's lost a lot of weight since that day. He took it serious, he went out there, and he gave it a shot."

Nevertheless, that shot missed the mark, and White says he's done with Toney.

"He's the IBA and NABO heavyweight champion," White said. "He's a boxer, and that's what he does."

"I hate to say this because I don't want to take anything away from Gray Maynard, but I think Kenny is just one of those guys who chokes in big fights. I'm not bad-mouthing him or trying to disrespect him; I'm just being honest. Every time it's a big fight and there's a lot of things on the line, Kenny just ... Kenny's hands are unbelievable. Kenny's ground is unbelievable. Kenny usually kicks guys to the body and legs so hard that he busts guys up. You didn't see any of that tonight. He stood there and stared at Gray Maynard for three rounds."

This weekend saw two DEEP titles defended, a former Shooto contender returned to action after a near three-year hiatus, and a couple interesting match-ups announced for DREAM 16 amongst other things. Here's the rundown:

-"DEEP 49 Impact" took place on Friday from Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan.

In the main event, Masakazu Imanari successfully defended his DEEP bantamweight title as he picked up a unanimous decision victory over Tomoya Miyashita. This was Imanari's fourth consecutive victory following a loss to current DREAM champion, Bibiano Fernandes, in the quarter finals of the DREAM featherweight grand prix last year.

In the co-main event, Riki Fukuda defeated PRIDE veteran, Ryuta Sakurai, for the third time in his career. Fukuda unleashed a barrage of uppercuts and knees in the second round which sent Sakurai rolling out of the ring onto the floor, which prompted the referee to stop the fight.

-"Nitro MMA" held their first show on Friday from the Chandler Arena in Chandler, Queensland, Australia.

Cage Force veteran, Seiji Otsuka, spoiled the return of former Shooto bantamweight contender, Daniel Lima. Lima hadn't fought since September of 2007 in a split decision win over WEC veteran, Kenji Osawa. This was also Lima's debut at 125 pounds. Otsuka took home a split-decision victory over the home-town favorite.

Daisuke Nakamura picked up his second straight victory with a first round armbar submission over Australian, Jai Bradney. Prior to this bout, Nakamura had defeated Ganjo Tentsuku on the ASTRA card in April. There's no word on where Nakamura will show up next as he has competed everywhere from Strikeforce to M-1 to DREAM in the last few years.

-Japan's best 145 pound women's fighter, Hiroko Yamanaka, was in action on Sunday at the Grand Prince Hotel Akasaka in Chiyoda, Tokyo, Japan. Yamanaka defeated debuting kickboxer, Sandy Furner, via forearm choke submission in the first round of their fight at a Shoot Boxing event. This bout was the only one on the card with MMA rules.

-Flyweight prospect, Fumihiro Kitahara defeated Hiroyuki Tanaka via rear naked choke submission in the second round at "Shooto- Gig North 4". The top-ten ranked, Kitahara improved to 9-1-1 on Sunday at the Zepp Sapporo in Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan.

-On Friday, three fights were announced for the "DREAM.16" card that will take place on September 25 in Nagoya. Former Strikeforce title challenger, Jason "Mayhem" Miller will take on the legendary, Kazushi Sakuraba, in a middleweight contest according to HDNet Fights.

Also on that card will be the DREAM light heavyweight championship fight as former DREAM middleweight champion, Gegard Mousasi, will take on Tatsuya Mizuno for the vacant belt.

In a high-quality featherweight scrap, Michihiro Omigawa will take on Bellator tournament champion, Joe Warren.

by Fraser Coffeen

After a rocky few weeks of some bad stories coming out of K-1, today we finally get some unequivocally good news from the company. Through their official website, K-1 has announced (almost) all the details on the remainder of the 2010 season for Koshien, MAX, and of course the Grand Prix. It's a lot of info, so let's jump right in:

GRAND PRIX

The Final 16 is set for October 2 in Seoul, with the GP finals to be held December 11 in a venue yet to be determined. There will be no further qualifying GP's between now and the final 16. Tanigawa confirmed that 7 of last year's final 8 would indeed take part in the GP. Badr Hari will take part, despite his on-going legal troubles, and Alistiar Overeem has officially given up on landing the Fedor fight this fall, choosing to return to K-1. Not taking part: Remy Bonjasky, who needs 6 weeks to recover from eye surgery before resuming training.

The complete line-up so far includes: Hari, Overeem, Semmy Schilt, Jerome Le Banner, Ruslan Karaev, Ewerton Teixiera, Errol Zimmerman, Ben Edwards, Kyotaro, and Freddy Kemayo. That leaves 6 vacant slots to be filled by fan vote and K-1's own whims. If I had to guess, I would say both Peter Aerts and Gokhan Saki are a lock for two of those slots. Other front runners would be Ray Sefo, Alexey Ignashov, and Daniel Ghita. Other names I could potentially see involved are Hesdy Gerges, Singh Jaideep, Tyrone Spong, and Melvin Manhoef.

MAX GRAND PRIX

Thankfully, the MAX Grand Prix IS indeed happening, though the news isn't as thoroughly positive as the GP news.

First up, they will continue the Final 16, although a date and venue remain TBD. After that Final 16, the MAX finals will be a one night, 8 man tournament on November 8 in Tokyo. That card will also include action in the 63kg division, featuring champ Tetsuya Yamato, Yuta Kubo, and Hiroya among others.

For that Final 16 show, they released a list of 8 participants: Giorgio Petrosyan, Drago, Artur Kyshenko, Chahid, Mike Zambidis, Mohamed Khamal, Vitaly Hurkou, and Su Hwan Lee. Remember, Kraus, Nagashima, and Sato have already qualified for the Final 8, so there are 5 slots remaining, which means we still have 2 fighters yet to be announced for the Final 16.

This list is a case of good news/bad news. Good news: the return of defending champion Giorgio Petrosyan, who was potentially holding out due to a financial dispute. Excellent to see him back and defending his crown. Bad news: no Buakaw, no Souwer. Buakaw I was prepared for, as signs have pointed all year to him not taking part. Souwer on the other hand, is a shock, and a blow. If he indeed does not take part, it would be very unfortunate, and would really lower the overall level of competition in this tournament. Because Souwer has signed a fight for Sept. 18, it's possible he simply can not fit in the Final 16 event, which would mean K-1's slow scheduling here has really hurt them. We'll see what happens and who fill those final 2 slots.

KOSHIEN

The Final 16 will be held November 20 in Tokyo. They did not confirm this, but the earlier plan was to have the Koshien finals take place on one night and be separated from Dynamite, so this may be a one night, 16 man tournament. Only big news here is that defending Koshien champion Masaaki Noiri, who has been on a roll since winning the title, will indeed be back to defend. Other participants include Tsukasa Fuji, Keisuke Miyamoto, Mitsuhiro Ishida, Hiroki Akimoto, Ryuya Kusakabe, Shoei Hareyama, Ryosuke Sasaki, Koki Takeuchi, and Minoru Kimura.

Overall, this is very welcome news that helps ease some of the fears over K-1's immediate future. Now, instead of gloom and doom, we can start getting excited for the months to come.

In all my years traning i have come across schools and instructors that should be wiped out taking inocent peoples money and offering nothing more than a half arsed aerobics class and a chance to get your arse kicked if you ever had to defend your self . If you,ve found these schools/instructors protect the innocent and let people know . my list of "Mc dojo,s" : go kan ryu- wouldn,t let me spar incase i hurt someone
: Zen do kai- not all classes suck just 2 out of the 5 i
looked at instructor was too busy telling
everyone how good he was, would beat up kids
and stop fighting adults when he was getting
beaten and correct a "flawed" technique, pussy
I,m not the greatest martial artist by any means but i enjoy training hard and learning new things from my training partners . I love fighting people better than me as it always brings out the best i,ve got and i like helping the people who are trying their hardest to get better, I JUST DON,T LIKE ARSEHOLES AND PRETENDERS.
