Green tea is a favorite beverage for many seniors. Not only is it relaxing, but it has some other benefits as well. Green tea is packed with antioxidants which can help reduce inflammation and prevent a whole host of diseases. But recent studies suggest that green tea may even be able to help fight off Alzheimer’s disease.

Green tea keeps proteins in check

A process that scientists have associated with Alzheimer’s disease and other neurodegenerative diseases is the misfolding of the metal-associated amyloids protein in the brain. Green tea contains a molecule known as epigalloccatechin-3-gallate, or EGCG, that is capable of breaking down structures within the protein that is believed to contribute to Alzheimer’s. According to Mi Hee Lim, a faculty member at the University of Michigan and one of the researchers studying the EGCG molecule, green tea is able to help prevent many diseases.

The digestive system is key

The real key to the success of the EGCG molecule is how the body digests it. Studies have shown that when green tea is digested, the molecule becomes more effective than it is in its undigested form. This is true of many chemicals believed to be beneficial to the body. Though researchers can identify those chemicals and identify foods rich in those chemicals, they cannot predict how effective they will be until they can study how the body digests those foods and utilizes those chemicals.

Think running is the best way to lower your risk of heart-related conditions? Think again. A new study shows that a brisk walk may be able to do the trick just as well.

In the American Heart Association journal Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis, and Vascular Biology, a research study has been reported which has found that “walking briskly can lower your risk of high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes as much as running can.” Researchers looked at 33,060 runners and 15,045 walkers and compared their heart health over the course of six years.

Walking and running work same muscle groups

Paul T. Williams, Ph.D., the principle author of the study, reported, “Walking and running provide an ideal test of the health benefits of moderate-intensity walking and vigorous-intensity running because they involve the same muscle groups and the same activities performed at different intensities.” He and his co-author looked at distance run or walked, rather than time spent doing each activity.

Unsurprisingly, they found that the longer a person ran or walked, the more they benefited. Runners experienced a 4.2 percent reduced risk for first-time hypertension, while walkers’ risk was reduced 7.2 percent. Runners also had a 12.1 percent reduced risk of first-time diabetes, compared to a 12.3 percent decrease for walkers.

Walking is more sustainable

Williams also pointed out that “walking may be a more sustainable activity for some people when compared to running, however, those who choose running end up exercising twice as much as those that choose walking.” Some people may choose not to exercise at all, thinking walking doesn’t benefit them enough to be worth the effort. These findings may be the incentive people need to give up on finding excuses not to exercise.

Are you prepared for the summer?

It is almost summertime. You know what that means-swimming suit season! Are you prepared? If you’re anything like me, then you’re probably not. You’ve most likely still got a few of your winter insulation pounds huddled somewhere around your middle. Don’t worry, though. It’s not too late to lose a couple pounds before hitting the swimming pool. This is where I found the article: Get your body ready for summer

The faster you eat, the higher your BMI

Eating fast makes it easier to overeat. This is because your body doesn’t have time to realize it is full. An article in the Journal of the American Dietetic Association says researchers in New Zealand “looked at the relationship 2,500 women had between their self-reported speeds of eating and their body mass indexes.” They found the faster the women ate, the higher their BMIs were. If you need to keep from overeating, turn off the Television. Distractions will keep you from realizing how much you’re eating.

Eating more often

Just eating three meals a day is not necessarily good for you. Actually, Lauren Antonucci, M.S., owner of Nutrition Energy in New York City says, “eating more often keeps your metabolism humming, and prevents you from getting super hungry.” Just make sure you are not eating a lot of chips or cookies. Stick to vegetables and fruit for your snacks.

Be cautious with reward calories

Working out is good; make sure you do not use your great workout as an excuse to eat junk food. Before you exercise, set a limit on your reward calories. Nutrition expert Nisevich Bede suggests, “A secure number is 200 reward calories, and if you went for a really, really long workout, 400 calories.” Try getting these calories from places like low-fat ice cream, a single serving of chips, or a bit of dark chocolate.

Workers of the Los Angeles Dodgers might not receive compensation as normal on Thursday, June 30. It is because LA Dodgers Holding Company LLC filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, reports NBC Sports. Players and employees paycheck is beyond owner Frank McCourt's capability to rectify currently. Post resource - Los Angeles Dodgers file Chapter 11 bankruptcy by Newsytype.com.

Getting some time

The Chapter 11 filing halts legal action against LA Dodgers Holding Company LLC, the bankruptcy estate. The paperwork implies that there are up to 49 sue-hungry creditors that can't do it now. The crew won't be controlled by McCourt anymore though. Now, Major League Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig will be in control. Whatever the suit, legal experts are confident a major reorganization of the Dodgers' is coming.

A deal McCourt took loans out against

Frank McCourt has been relying on a 17-year broadcasting rights offer between the LA Dodgers and Fox Sports, which as reported by Bloomberg is worth around $3 billion. Various sources indicate McCourt has even taken out cash advances on the deal to satisfy team expenditures. Some sources indicate personal expenses were also involved, partially related to McCourt's messy divorce.

All of this plus the Chapter 11 indicates Frank McCourt wasn't operating with a monetary back-up plan. The Wall Street Journal speculates McCourt will ask the bankruptcy court to persuade Fox Sports to follow through with the remainder of the TV deal money, but whether or not his request is going to be granted is up in the air. Fox has taken a hands-off approach with Frank McCourt recently. Legal experts also point out the bankruptcy court's principal interest is the LA Dodgers' creditors, not the Dodgers or Frank McCourt.

Stance Major League Baseball is taking

As reported by NBC Sports, Selig and MLB are taking the position that Frank McCourt accepted less money from Fox Sports than he could have acquired for a broadcasting deal of that length. The court may decide that McCourt wanted quick cash and short-changed the LA Dodgers. This would lead to a forced auction sale if it happens. Up until the court decides what to do, the Dodgers payroll will likely still continue. MLB will most likely make sure the players and staff gets paid.

The Dodgers moving forward is something McCourt is stressed about:

"The Chapter 11 process provides the path on which to position the Los Angeles Dodgers for long-term success," he said. "The process will allow us to focus on maximizing value in a manner that is transparent and driven by the best interests of the Los Angeles Dodgers and our fans."

Just how much the Dodgers are worth

In the bankruptcy filing, Los Angeles Dodgers Holding Company LLC lists between $500 million and $1 billion in assets, with under $50,000 in liabilities. The obligations will be met by the Dodgers according to New York-based law firm Dewey & LeBoeuf's bankruptcy counselor Bruce Bennett:

"The deal with Fox demonstrates that the Dodgers have enormous value which substantially exceeds the team's current and future liabilities," said Bennett. "The media rights will, one way or another, generate enough value to facilitate reorganization."

The Fox deal meant advances for Frank McCourt in cash
2. Chael Sonnen
3. Ronaldo Souza
4. Yushin Okami
5. Mark Munoz
6. Vitor Belfort
7. Demian Maia
8. Brian Stann
9. Wanderlei Silva
10. Michael Bisping

Pound for pound kingpin Anderson Silva is set to face Yushin Okami, at UFC 134The fight is a rematch from the 2006 Rumble on the Rock tournament where Okami defeated Silva via a controversial disqualification, thus making Okami the last fighter to 'defeat' Silva. Meanwhile Mark Munoz and Brian Stann both enter the top ten with victories over Demian Maia and Jorge Santiago. Borderline top ten fighters Jason Miller and Michael Bisping will face each other after landing coach positions on the latest The Ultimate Fighter.

Welterweight

1. Georges Pierre
2. Jon Fitch
3. Jake Shields
4. BJ Penn
5. Nick Diaz
6. Josh Koscheck
7. Charlie Brenneman
8. Rick Story
9. Paul Daley
10. Thiago Alves

#2 Pound for pound fighter, Georges St Pierre, defends his belt against Jake Shields and will now face Strikeforce's champion in a title unification match. Both fighters have not lost a fight since 2007. With 9 and 10 fight winning streaks respectively. Rick Story moves into the top ten with a win over Thiago Alves, he will next face Nate Marquardt at UFC Live, June 26th.

Lightweight

1. Gilbert Melendez
2. Frank Edgar
3. Shinya Aoki
4. Eddie Alvarez
5. Gray Maynard
6. Tatsuya Kawajiri
7. Jim Miller
8. Clay Guida
9. Josh Thomson
10. Sean Sherk

Not much to report here. Gilbert Melendez is coming off a impressive tko of Tatsuya Kawajiri, Frankie Edgars last fight was a draw with Gray Maynard retaining his title, and Shinya Aoki had a hard time getting an opponent for his last fight, finally doing his thing with a neck crank of veteran Rich Clementi at Dream. Fight for Japan! Jim Miller and Clay guida both advance in the ranks, with a string of victories. The lower end is to close to call, Josh Thomson and Sean Sherk remain having only loss to the very elite but are likely to fade away if they dont get some good wins before a handful of fighters making thier way up the ladder do, notably in Guillard, Masvidal, Pettis, and Kikuno.

Featherweight

1. Jose Aldo
2. Hatsu Hioki
3. Chad Mendes
4. Kenny Florian
5. Michihiro Omigawa
6. Marlon Sandro
7. Robert Peralta
8. Hiroyuki Takeya
9. Diego Nunes
10. Joe Warren

Jose Aldo just recently defended against Mark Hominick and is now rumored to face Kenny Florian. Florian who just earned a decison win over Diego Nunes in his debut fight, looks to be getting a quick push to the top. Hatsu Hioki has chosen not to defend his Sengoku belt and is rumored to be in talks with the UFC, if he joins he will be a welcome addition to the roster and who's elite grappling and submission skills all but guarantee he will soon be fighting for the belt soon. Marlon Sandro has joined Bellator to compete in their Featherweight tournament and if he wins he should face the winner of Joe Warren and Patricio Freire.

Bantamweight

1. Dominick Cruz
2. Brian Bowles
3. Joseph Benavidez
4. Miguel Torres
5. Demetrious Johnson
6. Urijah Faber
7. Scott Jorgenson
8. Brad Pickett
9. Takeya Mizugaki
10. Damacio Page

Dominick Cruz will next face Urijah Faber at Bantamweight, his last three defenses against Scott Jorgenson, Joseph Benavidaz and Brian Bowles have cmented him as the betting favorite but Faber has alot of supporters. This fight takes place at UFC 132, July 2nd. Brian Bowles will also face Takeya Mizugaki at htis event. Benavidaz is set to face Eddie Wineland at UFC Live. Kid Yamamoto is set to break into the top ten if he can beat Damacio Page at UFC 135, September 24th.

Ok so I am finally back from my big trip and what can I say but wow.

Check out the vids I took here:

http://ninjashoes.net/forum/showthre...P-VIDS!-WAHOOO!

I didn't get much sleep leading up to the big trip. I had never flown on a plane before so the the idea of it was making me a bit edgy.

I managed to pack all my shit into one blue duffle bag. Going through TSA at the SeaTac airport wasnt nearly as bad as I thought it would be. I expected to pretty much be raped but that didnt happen. At one point I thought this hot mexican girl was gonna pat me down but she didnt, I was very dissapointed. She even had the blue gloves on and was looking at me.

Flying was wayyy fun! When the plane was leaving the ground I felt like superman! My ears were hurting because I didnt bring any gum but it was still amazing flying for the first time in my life at 28 years old.

I had 3 flights: one from seattle to san francisco then from san fran to LA then from LA to San Diego.

On the second flight in I met an awesome dude who I had a great discussion with about computers and business. Its weird randomly making friends but very cool and new to me. Whats weird was I felt like I was supposed to talk to the guy for some reason and I just went with it lol.

Its definetly hotter in Cali than in the Seattle area. During the last flight when we were swooping down into San Diego I was amazed at how beautiful everything looked from the sky. I realized at that point that I did not book enough time to visit this majestic place. I felt like I was in a movie, a movie about me haha. When I arrived at the SD airport I threw on a pair of shades not only to protect my eyes but to also enter a new mode of existence.

My rental car was really nice and combined with the GPS; I literally had no problems finding the hotel or anything else. I do not know how humans have functioned for so long without GPS's. The hotel was really cool as was the staff. I drove past some beach areas and was blown away by the scenery, the palm tree's really left an impression in my mind along with the beautiful landscape and the sailboats. My rental had XM radio in it and it was tuned to a rap station. I figured since I was in Cali I better listen to rap so I pumped up the bass and started cruising around staring at people hoping that they look at me. I saw some fine ass looking women everywhere omg.

Evening came and everyone started arriving at the hotel. You can check out the vids if your curious how it went but suffice it to say I was pleasently suprised at how well we all got along and how comfortable I ended up feeling with these people. I cannot stress enough how amazing it was to fly down to a city I have never visited and to make so many great new friends beyond the e-life. I had so much fun I ended up inviting everbody to come up and visit me in Seattle. Everyone was extremely cool, no bullshit.

I was feeling pretty ill the whole time due to lack of sleep and a mixture of all kinds of glorious chemicals. I soldiered up however and did a great job as a host. I even puked 2 or 3 times during dinner. I managed to straighten myself out each time and rejoin the table. I bet everyone was wondering why I was so pastey and sick looking, they probably assumed I was a vampire which is cool with me!

When I left the hotel I left behind all the extra alcohol I couldnt finish with a note thanking the staff for a great stay.

During the flight back I had a stopover in Phoenix. When I was looking down at the city I kept thinking wow this is where Oddtoppsy lives, it looks like a crazy city but sorta beautiful in a way. I wondered if the Phoenix lights would pop up. It is too fuckin hot in Arizona but I wouldnt mind flying down there for a short visit, I will have to bring ice.

So in conclusion I should say that I really love San Diego and want to go back there. That place has a really cool feel to it. People just ride around on bikes and soak up the great weather and beauty of the place. I never seen so many smiling faces(lots of gang members too though haha) but you know what even the gang members seemed to be smiling. Knowing I have friends down there I can visit now really makes me want to go back. I have never been more proud to have started ninjashoes.net and I am also very proud for the first time to not only be the owner but to also be part of a community with so many great and loyal people.

Special thanks to Shogunownes, 40, Mary Jane, Chickenjorge and his girl Lily for all showing up, I would love to hang out with any of you guys again. Sorry you couldn't make it out Xhale and to everyone else I hope you come hang with me at some point in the future.

I am excited to fly for the first time in my life(when I was a kid it was all done by car).

I have my FlipHD so I can take some vids of the beach and of Xhales bootyhole.

I have my ninja-mask, hopefully I will make it through airport security. I am a little nervous about flying, even more nervous about having to go through TSA.

I plan on taking making lots of youtube vids so stay tuned for my next blog post.

Recently a friend brought an article from the NY TIMES to my attention that was based on baseball players using Mixed Martial Arts training in there off season work outs to become better athletes, and players. But this is not the first time athletes have used Mixed Martial Arts styled training to become a better athlete and increase there performance. At Xtreme Couture In Las Vegas,NV Athletes from all walks of life come into the gym to work with some of the best Mixed Martial Arts trainers and fighters in the world to optimize their performance.

Any type of athlete can benefit from training in Mixed Martial Arts, whether it be to increase stamina, strength, speed, power, mental toughness or all of the above: Mixed Martial Arts training has a lot to offer Athletes from every sport. Some of the hardest aspects of being an athlete is the mental game that takes place every second you are on the field. Ask any athlete and they will tell you if their mind is in the right place they feel unstoppable but on the other hand when an athlete is mentally weak, or in a bad place doing the most basic of techniques can be grueling.

Mental toughness is something that all Mixed Martial Arts training teaches you right away. The benefits an athlete will gain just from gaining the ability to push themselves on the mats will correlate exponentially to their specific sport. Every athlete trains to be mentally tough, but there is nothing out there that can match what mental anguish a fighters training session can force you to overcome. Even going through two a days for football season cannot compare to a Mixed Martial Arts Fighter regimen. Now I am no pro football player so some might ask how can I say what is harder, well both Matt Lienart and Patrick Willis have came down to Xtreme Couture and acknowledged how challenging the training sessions can be. “I really had no idea what I was getting myself into,” Leinart said with a smile. “But in a good way.”. They both went on to talk about how rough the training is, and how they have benefited in numerous ways in a Mens Fitness article.

With all that being said keep an eye out for more athletes to use Mixed Martial Arts to prepare themselves for upcoming seasons. Also if you are an athlete in the Long Island, NY area hit me up to get some Mixed Martial Arts training and get in the best condition of your life while improving your mental game.
1.Fabricio Werdum

4.Brock Lesnar
5.Cain Velasquez
6.Alistair Overeem

Heavyweight

1.Fabricio Werdum
2.Fedor Emelianenko
3.Junior Dos Santos
4.Brock Lesnar
5.Cain Velasquez
6.Alistair Overeem
7.Antonio Silva
8.Shane Carwin
9.Frank Mir
10.Antonio Nogueira

Fabricio Werdum tops our ranks with an unusually easy win over perennial top HW Fedor Emelianenko. Fedor obviously wants a rematch while Fabricio won’t fight for the rest of the year due to elbow surgery. Reports are Fedor wants #6 Alistair Overeem, but this most likely won’t happen due to Overeem committing to the K-1 HW Grand Prix.

#2 Junior Dos Santos fought and beat Roy Nelson to become the #1 contender for the HW title. He is currently awaiting the winner of Lesnar and #5 Velasquez coming up October 23rd. #4 Brock Lesnar is the UFC HW champ, but there’s a feeling that he barely pulled the win out against #8 Shane Carwin. Dos Santos’ win was more dominant so he gets the nod although Brock can possibly move to the top with a dominant win.

#7 Antonio Silva pulled out a unanimous decision against perennial top ten but currently unranked HW Andrei Arlovski. Silva is currently scheduled to fight Valentjin Overeem coming up December 4th, which probably won’t help or hurt him in the rankings unless he loses.

#8 Shane Carwin is currently in a holding pattern following his loss to Brock Lesnar. Rumor is he’s to fight Roy Nelson but nothing is currently scheduled. #9 Frank Mir pulled out a win against legend Mirko Crocop, but most feel it was a poor showing for Mir and that the fight should have been finished sooner. In the end, he beat an unranked opponent. Mir was supposed to fight #10 Antonio Nogueria, but Big Nog had to pull out due to knee surgery, which will keep him out for the rest of the year.

Light Heavyweight

1. Mauricio Rua
2. Lyoto Machida
3. Rashad Evans
4. Forrest Griffin
5. Quinton Jackson
6. Rafael Cavalcante
7. Ryan Bader
8. Jon Jones
9. Mo Lawal
10. Gegard Mousasi

#1 Mauricio Rua got his win against #2 ranked Lyoto Machida to get the UFC LW title some say was awarded a fight too late. Knee surgery has him out until next year. It looks as though he’s going to fight current #3 Rashad Evans, who’s going to sit out until the fight is made. #2 Machida looks to recover from his 1st round KO with a scheduled bout against #5 Quinton Jackson who himself is looking to bounce back from his unanimous decision loss to Evans. #4

Forrest Griffin was set to fight Lil Nog before having to pull out due to a shoulder injury. Griffin hasn’t fought since getting the split decision against unranked Tito Ortiz last November. #7 Jon Jones continues to rise to the top with increasingly tough competition beating an overwhelmed Vladimir Matyushenko back in August. He was rumored to face the winner of Lil Nog/Ryan Bader but nothing is currently scheduled.

#6 Rafael Cavalcante and #9 Mo Lawal fought for the Strikeforce LW title back in August with Rafael getting the win via tko. King Mo currently is out until next year due to knee surgery while Cavalcante currently has nothing scheduled.#10 Gegard Mousasi has won two fights in Dream since losing his Strikeforce LW title to King Mo. His last of which was in September. He currently doesn’t have an opponent scheduled yet.

Middleweight

1. Anderson Silva
2. Chael Sonnen
3. Nate Marquardt
4. Vitor Belfort
5. Ronaldo Souza
6. Jorge Santiago
7. Demian Maia
8. Yushin Okami
9. Wanderlei Silva
10. Jason Miller

#1 Anderson Silva eeked out the win against #2 Chael Sonnen in a fight which Sonnen had in his pocket. Since then, Sonnen tested positive for PED’s and Silva, with reportedly already injured ribs, is out until next year. Silva is set to fight #4 Vitor Belfort when he comes back in a fight schedule for Febuary 5th 2011. With the injury history of Belfort, who hasn’t fought since KO’ing unranked Rich Franklin last September, chances seem slim that this fight will happen.

#3 Nate Marquardt got back on the winning side getting a tko win against unranked Rousimar Palhares. This win earned him a shot at #8 Yushin Okami in November at UFC 122, a spot which was vacated by Belfort.

#5 Ronaldo Souza won the vacant Strikeforce MW title getting the unanimous decision against unranked Tim Kennedy. Souza is currently riding a 4 fight unbeaten streak. He currently has no planned opponent. #6 Jorge Santiago barely defended his Sengoku MW title last August at Sengoku 14 against unranked Kazua Misaki. Santiago, who has lost 1 fight in his last 12, currently doesn’t have a scheduled opponent.

#7 Demian Maia, who has 1 win since getting dominated by Anderson Silva, is scheduled to take on unranked Kendall Grove December 4th at The TUF finale. #9 Wanderlei Silva last fought in Feburary when he defeated unranked Michael Bisping. He was scheduled to take on unranked Yoshihiro Akiyama, but had to pull out due a rib injury. #10 Jason Miller is riding a 2 fight winning streak, after a near win over Jake Shields, his latest against a *don’t even want to type this* faded Kazushi Sakuraba. Miller will fight in the Strikeforce Mw tournament, or wait it out for a unranked catch weight fight with Nick Diaz.

Welterweight

1. Georges Pierre
2. Jon Fitch
3. Jake Shields
4. Thiago Alves
5. Josh Koscheck
6. Martin Kampmann
7. Paulo Thiago
8. Paul Daley
9. Carlos Condit
10. Dan Hardy

#1 GSP hasn’t lost since getting tko’d by unranked Matt Serra over 3 years ago. His next challenge will be a rematch with #5 Josh Koscheck, who he’s also a rival coach on the latest installment of The Ultimate Fighter. The fight will be for GSP’s WW title.

#2 Jon Fitch continues to bide his time waiting for a rematch. Fitch hasn’t lost a fight since losing to GSP, which is a lot of rounds considering he has had unanimous decisions in the 5 fights since then. He is currently the #1 contender. #3 Jake Shields brings his 14 fight win streak to the UFC taking on #6 Martin Kampmann, who is on a 2 fight win streak of his own. The fight will be Shields first in the UFC.

#4 Thiago Alves is on a 2 fight losing streak and will face the dreaded 3 fight losing streak if he takes on unranked John Howard on December 11 at UFC 124. The fight could be Alves’ last at WW.
#7 Paulo Thiago is set to fight unranked Diego Sanchez at UFC 121 on October 23rd. Thiago needs this fight to stay relevant in the top ten picture while Sanchez needs the fight to stay relevant at all.

#8 Paul Daley won’t have this problem as he has signed a multi-fight deal with Strikeforce following his 3 round unanimous decision against former street fighter, Jorge Masvidal, who also signed a deal with Strikeforce. Daley is set to face unranked but always exciting Scott Smith at Strikeforce: Henderson vs. Babalu on December 4th.

#9 Carlos Condit is still finding ways to win in the UFC. He is riding a 2 fight winning streak into UFC 120, in which he’ll face #10 Dan Hardy in a fight that will keep one of them in the top 10.

Lightweight

1. Frank Edgar
2. Gilbert Melendez
3. Shinya Aoki
4. Eddie Alvarez
5. Gray Maynard
6. Tatsuya Kawajiri
7. Kenny Florian
8. Josh Thomson
9. Sean Sherk
10. Evan Dunham

He did it again. #1 Frankie Edgar showed the first Penn defeat wasn’t a fluke as he went on to win 5 more rounds against #5 BJ Penn. Penn has never lost 2 fights in a row at 155, he will be moving to WW in the next update he is currently set to face unranked Matt Hughes at UFC 123 while Edgar is set to fight #6 Gray Maynard at UFC 125 on New Year Day.
