There are a few arguments that I find a little weak, as with Sam Harris (I won't bother getting into them now). However, all in all, I think the very fact that there are extremists sheds some unfavorable light on the whole issue.

You will never find a Buddhist blowing up a bus to try and destroy infidels. At worst they kill themselves (e.g. Vietnam).

You bring up isolated incidents. MEANWHILE, half the world from Israel to Kashmir is constantly embroiled in pure, unceasing barbarism due to religion. I will go to Columbine right now with no fear of being killed by Athiests. Can you say the same about Israel, Palestine, Iraq, Afghanistan, India, Pakistan, Phillipines?

Did Klebold, Harris, or Ramirez shoot up a bunch of people on the basis of their lack of belief in God? No. They did it because they were distrubed and abused kids and the had a host of major environmental problems.

Did the 9/11 bombers or the Army of God abortion clinic bombers kill because of their explicit religious beliefs? Yes. There is no question of this.

well, I thought it would be fun to get in on the discussion, but it appears that Reaper Man and Al Gore are the only people here with any intelligence.
