View Full Version : How long did it take you tejay71093 01-05-2007, 12:42 AM to get good at striking? Not to get amazing at it but good enough to at least hang and try to set up takedowns? Aiden 01-05-2007, 01:00 AM my striking is really a work in progress..i need to really get my footwork down first..it takes some people months (Koschecks footwork and striking looks great in minimal time) or it could take years and years depending on you. Have you been practicing striking and if so hows it going? TripleAAA 01-05-2007, 04:18 PM It's individual. I still can't land anything but the jab. Few of my friends got good in few months. They are PuertoRicans It's in blood. VENDO 01-05-2007, 04:43 PM I found myself a natural at boxing. I know the basics of MMA, and I try mastering them everyday. tejay71093 01-05-2007, 10:32 PM I just started striking, I'm pretty comfortable from the clinch and on the ground but as far as striking goes I feel like a fish out of water. So far I can only jab comfortably, throwing with my right hand feels really akward (opponent always circles to my left). Also standing up straight is foriegn(used to grappling). Anyone else have these problems starting out and if so how long did it take to get comfortable, I learned grappling pretty quickly is stand up harder to learn? If your striking is better than theirs and you not worried about their power you can circle the wrong way blocking them from circling away from your heavy hand thus making the ability to land it easier. As for the uncomfortableness ..Practice, Practice, Practice. erskine777 01-11-2007, 07:56 AM I'm just curious, but what stance do you guys use? I prefer a southpaw stance because i jab like 75% of the time when throwing punches. i'm pretty comfortable with striking...it's a whole different story when the other person is punching back and you have to defend. combatbasedonny 01-13-2007, 12:59 AM roughly 6 months to get half decent. only train basics, thats all you need. I have never lost a thai boxing match and I only use basic punches and only two kicks (roundhouse and push kick). Just watch bas rutten and youll see what i mean. BASICS!!! Bas ruttens instructionals are good too. vBulletin® v3.7.4, Copyright ©2000-2008, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd. |
