1. Megaman 2 - Nintendo
-Simply the best; proof that 8-bit music can rock harder than a John Holmes erection.
2. Final Fantasy 3 (US) - SNES
- Although previous final fantasies stood out, this was the height of epic RPG music.
3. Secret of Mana - SNES
-Mainly the first overworld theme, "Into the thick of it", which I would say demonstrates a real commitment to making a unique and atmospheric soundtrack.
4. Final Fantasy 7 - Nintendo
-
5. Metal Gear 1-9999

WORST SOUNDTRACKS (just a few)
1. Gran Turismo 1-4
-Nothing says "Drive the sh*t out of expensive dream cars" less, than Soul Coughin's "Super bon-bon".
2. Marvel vs. Capcom 2
-The music is good for arcade style fun, but what the hell is with the chick shouting "I'm gunna take you for a ride" when selecting characters? Just a weird ass fusion of funk hits and weird beats.
3. Impossible Mission (NES)
-Not only the most frustrating, bizarre, and confusing game in existence, but there's no soundtrack at all - save the musical puzzle you can never find. Dear God, I hate that game. Please destroy it. PS - I love you.

***NOTE****
My major criticism with most Final Fantasy games is the lack of a variety of battle themes. If we're going to be fighting thousands of random encounters, at least give us a 20 song soundtrack for them (not including boss music).
