an external hd is not a bad idea..you could put all of the non system files on there like movies and music and have plenty of room for apps in your pc's hd...they are more expensive than getting a secondary hd internally though.

i would do it just because it is an automatic backup of whatever you want, so if your pc crashes, you've got a bunch of safe files. also, if you upgrade to a new computer, you don't have to shift files from one pc to another.

Nah I've used this for 2 years now whenever I scan for viruses and never had a problem with it. It's plug and play, too, so you don't need to install any drivers. Just plug it in any USB port, and the computer detects it automatically as an external storage, kind of like those USB data keys.

If your buddy has a virus, just take his HD out and plug it in the thing, then scan for virus on the drive. Very VERY helpful. Good money maker, too. The local shops here charge $300 for a virus scan and removal.

Nope was talking about the heat generation of said hard drives when they are attached to a USB device that doesn't provide an aluminum housing and or a cooling fan. Hence I procured a picture of an Ice Cube Tray :sifone:
