Jeff Lacy's adviser Jim Wilkes informed the St. Pete Times that the former super middleweight champion is going to be out of the ring for at least 9-12 months due to a torn rotator cuff.
It was said that Lacy hurt his shoulder in the second round of Saturday’s night rematch with Ukranian Vitali Tsypko. Lacy appeared to have problems in the bout and was barely able to hold on to win a ten-round majority decision.
Lacy is heading out to New York in the next few days for surgery and will then begin rehabilitation on the shoulder.
Lacy trainer Dan Birmingham told the paper that his fighter fought his heart out, considering that he only had one arm.
“I think he fought a heck of a fight considering he had only one arm,’’ he said.
