View Full Version : For someone getting into boxing...
Subroc 12-05-2006, 10:43 PM The more I practice Muay Thai the more I am enjoying and respecting Boxing; however I am a gigantic noob and I have no idea where to start looking for information. What are a list of fights I should look to download or maybe some sites I can read? Who are the current popular fighters? I can't stress how little I know.
PS This isn't a troll thread I am genuinly interested.
I like www.boxingscene.com the most, thats where I get most of these threads from
ill start a thread with some good links a bit later, sounds like a good idea
Subroc 12-09-2006, 12:35 AM Thanks for the boxing links and faqs MBL what are some fighters I should be looking for their fights? I watched Floyd Mayweather jr. totally outclass the last guy he fought, are there any other boxers out there of his caliber?
Honestly I like Oscar the most right now, apart from some up and coming Aussie boxers like Mundine and Katsidis
MANNY PACQUIAO is p4p better than Floyd imo and fights like a little mike tyson but better
theres a thread somewhere in here with all the current top boxers in the world but it might be a few pages back
also James Toney is good to watch
Chickenjorge 12-09-2006, 02:22 AM roy jones jr.
james toney.
julio cesar chavez
manny pacquiao
mikey ward
erik morales
marco antonio barrera
Nasty Nate 12-09-2006, 02:31 AM yea im in the same boat as subroc, i am a total boxing newb, but gaining interest
If you want to get into it watch a Mike Tyson vid, then watch some Ali fights and yu start to appreciate it even more
personally I enjoy watching Ali fights more than Tyson
Nasty Nate 12-09-2006, 02:36 AM yea i was watching some of the ali, foreman, and nortan fights one night on a espn special.
Nasty Nate 12-09-2006, 02:37 AM i saw a dvd of a shitload of mike tyson knockouts yesterday in best buy, im thinkin about gettin it for my dad for xmas, cause he is always talkin about that shit and i have never seen them.
I recommened seeing all of Tysons earlier fights if you havent yet, better KO's than anything Cro Cops left kick has produced
Subroc 12-09-2006, 03:01 AM What ever happened to Roy Jones Jr.? I started watching some of his fights but he sorta seems to have dropped off the planet. Oh and whats the deal with Floyd Mayweather jr.? He seems like kinda a douche bag.
Chickenjorge 12-09-2006, 03:09 AM roy jones jr is old now. and floyd maywhether jr. is rich and it got to him, no wonder they call him "pretty boy floyd", he acts like a pretty boy too.
Floyd wants to tell everyone that he is better than anyone that ever lived
to cocky and boring to get a good fanbase,
Roy Jones is past his prime and was never pushed during it with a real defining fight
Floyd is definately great but he is a tool also
Subroc 12-09-2006, 03:19 AM I am watching Pacquiao vs. Morales III right now and the energy from the crowd is insane.
I love watching a fight in Manchester, they are insane crowd for there home fighters, its like a soccer crowd
Subroc 12-09-2006, 03:30 AM What is the average shelf life of a champion fighter now a days?
geez, it depends on who they fight I guess.
Heavy guys usually last longer, lightweights like Kostya Tszyu are usually to slow by the time they hit mid 30's because they rely more on speed
Subroc 12-09-2006, 03:51 AM lol MBL, I apreciate you humoring me. The Pacquiao vs. Morales III fight was awesome, thanks for telling me about him.
Pacman is the most exciting champ right now, I havent seen enough of him yet
I need to see more of Calzeghe (sp?) too.
And Subroc, check out the thread about the best fights ever to get a good idea of fights to try to see.
:sifone: lol MBL, I apreciate you humoring me. The Pacquiao vs. Morales III fight was awesome, thanks for telling me about him.

cocheese 12-10-2006, 06:57 AM Mayweather is cocky, but he's one of the greatest at slipping punches. For the opposite type of defense, check out Winky Wright. He's great at blocking. You can learn a lot of defense by watching those two.
Wlad is probably the best HW out there at the moment.well,he is IMO.Power in both hands.

Wlads most recent defense.
