It is hard to single out one prolific rapper as being the best; there have been many who have been crucial to where rap music is today. Some that I think are the most important are.

Kool Moe Dee of the Treacherous Three - If the Kool Moe Dee vs. Busy Bee Starski battle didn't happen, we would all be listening to rappers as hype men for DJs still.

Rakim - Dude he is fucking Rakim, the first rapper to emphasize flow and internal rhymes his lyrics still make me scream. Ahead of his time is an understatement. Listen to some of his songs like Microphone Fiend and see how many samples you can pull. I guarantee you will be surprised.

Tupac - I personally was never into Pac I was a huge Boot Camp fan when he was popular, but you cannot deny how influential he was through both his lyrics and style.

KRS-One - Birth of true lyrical rap, for that I will forever be in his debt.
