Does anyone gve a damn about these? They seem to be very effective yet dont matter very much without clothing. Unless you are on a beach I think in a streetfight gi chokes will always be effective.

you will never be good with no gi unless u start off using the gi

gi chokes are very effective if u are good that them exspecially from side control

the only thing a gi is good for is keeping some dudes sweat off you... next to that gi's along with gi chokes are useless unless the guy has a jacket or something.

It's boring watching 2 people roll around in a gi holding on to each other's sleeves.

Gi chokes............. that seems like a cheap tactic but i do my own cheap tactics as well.

because it's boring and only works if yer wearing a gi or yer fighting with someone who has some kind of jacket on ..............

They are actually pretty good anywhere but on the beach as you said. I personally hate them my neck always turns purple for a few days after a solid Gi choke and I am crap at doing them. I hear the key is in the depth of your hold.

Yeah depends on how you grip the gi with yer hand..........

Most of the still apply if the person is wearing a shirt or anykind of upper body clothing. BJJ guys wear gi's though for the purpose of making it harder to pull off moves and better their tecnique. When theres a baggy ass gi it makes it harder to fight for submissions I guess is what they are saying.

i only rolled around in a gi twice so far in my life ..... everything has been no gi so yeah i hate the god damn gi .......... my instructor is the only one to sub me with the gi.

I sub guys with my GI all the time. It's alot easier to choke someone from the back if you grab their GI, than it is to set a rear naked. I think it just makes the sport more technical. Most BJJ academies teach no Gi as well.

We train gi and no-gi in our school and they both have value - no gi more for mma, gi more for the street...think about it. I'll clock choke you with your damn t-shirt.

I like them both, no-gi feels more pure, but you have more control and many more tools with the gi on - it also forces you to rely more on technique than on strength and speed.

I agree that both ways have value and deserve to be trained and used. Not to say that I go both ways, but I do...Gi - No Gi that is.

Personally, I hate the GI choke, and really try not to use it when sparring. I just find it cheap, and to be honest, very frustrating. Nothing is worse then when you're trying to transition to something nice, and your opponent just grabs your lappelles. I put GI chokes on the same level as guillotines; use them if you absolutely have to, otherwise try something that's more technically challenging.

i know the basic gi choke and it works on people with street jackets... so i dont really need to learn more.

We have Gi and no Gi training days... I think they work great. The only way i see a GI choke not working is if the guy simply doesnt have a shirt on or hes wearing a weak stretchable shirt that would tear easily. And GI chokes are really dependent on the depth of the choke, if you set it in fast and quick its lights out :)

I hate having them put on me. I find I use them for other setups and attacks.

Everything cinches up so much more tightly with the Gi chokes.

gi chokes can be adapted to t-shirts, they teach you about the leverage you need for doing non-gi chokes also.

I Personally love Gi chokes and believe the Gi makes for a technically sound Grappler. Even though I perform better in Nogi from a competition stand point. Quite honestly I think Gi is more realistic, in No Gi you cant grap shorts or the shirt for leverage I'm not saying people don't try, but you arent supposed to in most tournements.
