just wondering what you guys think is the best..i just got a 30 gig mp3 player that plays divx, xvid, mpeg1,mpeg2,mpeg4, wmv ..and a few others but i think these are the most efficient...i have a bunch of ripped dvds on my pc and had been converting them to avi with divx compression and mp3 audio...these play great on my mp3 player and my pc, im just wondering if there is a more efficient way to do it. without compromising quality and having the file be too large. consider that i may be getting a mac laptop soon and it might be better to leave these as mpegs?

please drop some of your expertise on this.

I couldn't import some avis to movie maker so I just trick found out is using Boilsoft Video Splitter (it's like the best one out there) and just change the file extension before you save it. And instead of waiting quite some time to convert you get it instantly. Main reason I like it though is cause the quality has not shredded and still looks great (thus far atleast). Only problem I encountered being the audio may get messed up. Worth a try I'd say, let me know if you want the program.

uhh I guess avi is good, I think it all comes down to quality/space ratio

Xvid/MP3 or MPEG4 are good options. Both should work on most players and offer good compression.
