Building your own would be the best way because you get to choose what you want and you it's ridiculously cheaper. But if you were to buy a pre built you should check out any hardware computer stores in your location because you could probably get a good deal there. Just tell them you want it for gaming
With that aside your best going for a desktop, Intel core 2 duo preferably. And if you are indeed buying a pre built make sure you ask them about the motherboard. You'd want a pci express slot for a lot of the newer graphic cards for your games. Cause the system probably won't come with a good one so you upgrade to something like a 7900 which is going pretty cheap these days. As for space it's nothing really. Your bound to get 200+ gb anyway. It's just the speed of the drive which matters which you probably won't worry much anyway.
If you see one in like a online catalogue or something just give me a link, I'll help you out with it.

kool man thanks for the info. as far as building one goes, im not all that great with computers. that is y i want to get one of my own, so i can do whatever i want and explore/learn how to do shit, overall better myself with computers. i learn fairly well, so if its not all that complicated i could probally figure out how to put one together. i just dont want to fuck anything up.

It's all good I'll let you know the basics. At most stores they'll name the main specs in this case lets put something you would want
If it's an Intel processor(you'll see a lot of pentium 4 and celeron D) it usually be around 3 ghz which is good, not anything lower than that
however you'll find AMD processors (you'll see a lot of athlon and maybe even opteron which is a lot better) around 2 ghz but it doesn't mean it's that much worse
AMD's proccesors are usually clocked higher than what it's listed and in most cases faster unless you're comparing to Intel Core 2 Duo
as for the hard drive it doesn't really matter 200gb should be good if you need more than that lol than there should be a computer package with more
1 gb of ram, in your case would be perfect. Hell the higher the better with computer packages since they don't normally list what ram it is (eg. OCZ ddr2 4200 etc)
as for video cards if you ask them they should let you know which is included. All should be great for watching videos. And with most computer packages you might get integrated video card (built into the motherboard) which isn't the greatest for the newest games but there wouldn't be much worry since you don't play a lot of games. It should still run counterstrike, starcraft, half life 2 rly well
IF it comes with a video card it's gonna be either Nvidia or ATI, in your case your better seeing it as the higher the series the better. For instance as with geforce
there's say 5500, 6600, 7600.
Here check out something like this
http://www.factorydirect.ca/catalog/product_spec.php?pcode=GA5082
2.2 ghz (seems kind of low but remember the thing with AMD, it'll run fast comparable to the Intel 3ghz)
but in this case it's dual core which is somewhat the power of two processors which is another bonus
It has 2 gb of ram, that's way more than you'll ever need. Which is also a good thing
no need to worry about dvd drives they all should come with a fast one since there dead cheap anyways and hd is 250gb
With that aside and simplify everything you'll see computers with specs like..
3ghz
1gb ram
350 hd
geforce 6600 gt 256 mb
anything should be good, but in your case the higher (more ram, video memory, hd space, processor speed etc) would be better
If you were gonna buy a computer over a thousand dollars it's probably a gaming computer
And for your everday tasks like web browsing, downloading videos, watching videos, burning dvds a computer say 600-800 would be perfect
last but not least it'll probably come with a 20 inch flat panel lcd and all that to add up to 900ish
Just remember to look at the specs (bolden parts i listed) :)

hey i think im gonna go with a laptop, i need the mobility. but like i said, id like to be able to hook my xbox/ps to it, i need one with a burner, and as far as space goes, i can always get an extra hard drive and/or store my fights on cd/dvd right. id still also like to get into some comp games as well. but yeah im probally going to just go with that for now so what would you say for brand name?

As far as hooking up your xbox/ps2 to you computer that wouldn't be built into any, you'd have to find a ps2>vga adapter (sort of like those s-video adapters btu for vga). Something like this http://www.x2vga.com/, check your local eb games there's a slim chance they might have a mad catz one like that but obviously not as pricy.
As for the laptop Acer's are a good choice but it would rly depend on the model. Acer may not look the fanciest but you can find some at good prices and you could get a lot out of it. Or if you wanted to spend say that 1500+ dell has a good selection. Thing with laptops is that there not as powerful for the price but if you need the portability and don't mind your computer then go for it. Check main a bunch of stores, catalogues and stuff like that for the best deal. Something like this wouldn't be too bad for you, http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?sku_id=0665000FS10079890&catid=22497&logon=&langid=EN#
So in other words an acer or hp wouldn't be to bad of a deal, but if you want more dell's got quite a selection on their website. Hoep all goes well :)

Don't get a laptop if you don't have a good desktop.

That was a good choice indeed. You should be able to get rly good battery life off of it. As for the router depending on which one you got their should be a cd with the drivers. Also I think that laptop has one built in..lol could be wrong though
