i personally like the de la riva guard...

I have a pretty effective butterfly, but I have to say that X guard is my fav to use.

I've never technically "learned" it. I just know the position so I play around with it. It's very off-balancing to your opponent/partner

iv personally never been able to use the x-guard effectivly, maybe im not good ad it or maybe i dont know what im doing, but it deffinetly sets up leg locks, kneebars, knee cranks (which i dont like doing) and such.

but im never in my guard long enough to like a specific one :) jk.... butterfly or open all the way.

On topic: I suck at BJJ but I am anxious to learn and experiment with the rubber guard after seeing it in action on a few occasions.

Im a fan of closed guard and Butterfly, only because thats where im most effective :-)
