Could it also have been that veterans were trying to push their luck? Just a possibility. There seems to be a mass sentiment that mods are jealous of something for some reason, or that they ban people for the hell of it.

No banning is an interesting way to go. Interesting really. The only problem is that it only takes one person to spoil the whole deal. But it's a decent idea when it's a smaller group.
