Did anyone else get the feeling that Paulo was toying with Misaki? At no point in that fight was he in anything less than total control, he passed Misaki's guard like it wasn't even there. Then, once he gains mount, instead of immediately trying to finish the fight with a sub (armbar would be likely, given his record :p ) or via GNP (less likely), instead of that he doesn't even attempt to finish until 30 seconds is left in the round. I came away from that fight with the feeling that paulo could have slapped that armbar on Misaki at any time, and he knew it.

Because he was that dominant over misaki...like a cat playing with it's food before it eats it, I tells ya. I just don't think it was a coincidence that he didn't even attempt the armbar (even though he had numerous opportunities) until 30 seconds were left in the fight. And then when he does try it, he gets it so effortlessly...I dunno, it just seemed like he could have done that at almost any point he wanted to while he was in mount, but he was in no rush. From the very moment the fight hit the ground he was 110% in control, and he knew it.
Also, does anyone else notice the similarities to Rickson? Not only the obvious fact that he trained with him and apparently idolizes him, but the undefeated record, and the exact same fight strategy; takedown, pass guard, get mount, armbar from mount. Will the new saying be "Filho by armbar"?

1) There's no spoiler in the title
2) IT'S THE SPOILER FORUM, GENIUS! What did you expect?
Well genius the last active thread (of each section) makes it onto the homepage so even if you're not in the spoiler forum it gets spoiled.

Does that matter if point 1) is still true? This thread title is not a spoiler, if you *think* you can figure out who won the GP from this title then maybe you should actually *watch* the fights (which is why most people even come here) and realize how wrong you are.

while you didn't do anything wrong, i could see how rob would have a problem with it.
please try to be more careful with the title in the future.
Thanks deegs for the support.
I'm just going to say be more careful about how you name your threads. Some of us are waiting for the English version and don't want to see it spoiled on the homepage.

OK guys, point well taken...I would change the title to something even more ambiguous but it appears you can't edit thread titles. Maybe a mod could do it?
Does anyone have any discussion relating to the topic?
P.S. Rob, that belt is *fabulous* :p

i was really impressed with filho, especially considering the reputation he had garnered during his previous fights in pride. he was called mini-arona alot for his lack of activity once he takes someone down. he did well to finish masaki and seems to be at least a level above the rest of the fighters in the gp. he is too athletic, strong and technical to be stopped from taking you down, and once there, he's world class. he just needs to work on his striking from the mount and guard and he will be unstoppable.
if he keeps trying to finish fights, he will be a favourite of mine for a while. if he stays content to lay on people and hope for the best, then i'll hope he loses every time.

I think the difference between filho and arona is that arona, at least in the past, has been content to hang out in guard. Filho on the other hand is relentless in passing guard and getting mount. He's very patient and methodical, which some people see as boring...he doesn't really strike from the top until he gets to mount, and even then he doesn't strike too much (which is probably why is control from mount is so good...he's hard to buck off). Some people might find this boring, but he's not a LnP artist, he definitely finishes fights. He's a very classic jiu-jitsu fighter, except he has the skills to end up on top, whereas most people are used to seeing BJJ guys fight from their backs, trying to get subs while avoiding getting pounded out.
