First off I'll let it be known that for someone who has been using computers for the last 12-13 years, I'm not very computer literate. All I do with them is surf the internet and play games.

So I'm having a problem with my DVD and CD-rom drive on my computer. I have a DVD burner and yesterday, when I tried to burn off a DVD, I noticed that the option of burning the file onto DVD was missing. I tried playing DVDs/CDs on the drives but they don't load up. If I right click on START and go into EXPLORE, the CD and DVD drives (E: and F:?) are not even there to see anymore. Its like the computer is not detecting them or something. Anyone have any advice or know what the problem might be and how I could go about fixing this? Like I said I'm no computer expert in any field other than games or browsing pornography, and the last time I had a computer problem I posted the question on a forum and with the advice the problem was fixed in 5 minutes, so I figured I'd give it a shot here.

Thanks in advance for any info!

It could be your drivers were erased by some spyware which has happened to me a few times. It might be something you accidently did youself but Im thinking it was somekind of malicious spyware/virus. I would do this

1.Check your drivers

control panel>system>hardware>device manager

^could be different depending on your version on windows

right click on the individual drives and see if it has an option to update drivers and click it and go through the process if it does

if that doesent do shit

2.google your problem and you will find dozens of results and different things you can try on various tech forums, you can even try posting at a computer specific forum and get help from guys who work on comps for a living

as a last resort

3.take it in to a pc repair place, sometimes itll actually be something on your motherboard thats fucked up

assuming you have checked that the ide cable is still seated, and haven't changed any settings/installed any new software...sounds like you need a new drive
