The recognized “Golden Boy” of boxing Oscar De La Hoya says he is “leaning towards” Floyd Mayweather Jr in a fight he hopes to make next year after it became evident that former world champion Felix “Tito” Trinidad was demanding too much money for a fight and at a weight that De La Hoya couldn’t move up to.

In an exclusive overseas telephone conversation with Viva Sports/Manila Standard Today, De La Hoya played down fears of the speed and ring smarts of Mayweather saying “I have some good speed and good power so it should be a good fight.”

De La Hoya had earlier indicated he had lined up a number of excellent opponents for Filipino ring idol Manny Pacquiao who recently signed a seven-fight contract with Golden Boy Promotions including a rematch with WBC super featherweight champion Marco Antonio Barrera, possibly next March and a return bout with Juan Manuel Marquez among others.

The head of Golden Boy Promotions whose organization is regarded as one of integrity and decency and an outfit that truly looks after its fighters earlier told Pacquiao “not to worry” about the threats of Top Rank promoter Bob Arum to take legal action against him for having signed up with Golden Boy.

De La Hoya said that should Arum who he described as “a bully” file charges against Pacquiao, he would join the Filipino idol in filing a counter-suit charging Arum with harassment.

Earlier, WBC founding secretary general and eminent lawyer Rudy Salud warned Arum that he was leaving himself wide open to a harassment suit should be file a case against Pacquiao.

Oscar should stay away from Floyd.Pretty boy is at his peak & the absolute best P4P in the world IMO.
I'm looking forward to him taking Baldomir apart.

Floyd is the most annoying prick in boxing, i would love to see ODH take him, tough fight for either guy though
I think ODH would be to powerful for Mayweather and take it
Floyd likes to keep away from really tough fights
good fight though and hard to pick

He needs to fight a great fighter at the top of his game to solidify his position as P4P best.Hatton would be a better opponent than Baldomir.I really wanted to see him fight Kostya a few years back but it he wasn't at all keen on the idea.

Kostya would have KOed him imo and most boxing writers opinions also

Hatton has the style to beat Mayweather but he seems to have fallen recently

Hatton lives life in the fast lane & his style depends largely on youth.I think his prime will be short lived.
When I used to post at Boxingtalk a few yrs back & everyone was analysing a PBF/Tszyu matchup it was about 80% picking Kos..myself included. It was around the time he destoyed Mitchell in the rematch because if I recall rightly Tszyu had a big layoff prior to that fight with injuries.

yeah I think he had knee surgery and hadnt fought for way over a year

I read in the fist, he just had shoulder surgery and is deciding wether to make a 2 fight comeback or not depending on his injuries

It was Mayorga, not Margarito. Antonio Margarito is the one that Mayweather is ducking. Look for De la Hoya vs Mayweather on May 5th. May 5th being Cinco de Mayo, Mexican Independance Day, to help draw more pay per views.

It's deceiving to judge Oscar based on the Mayorga fight because of Mayorga's wild style and Oscar's technical discipline. I think all it showed was that Oscar's left hook is still quite potent (even though Mayorga was already ruined as a fighter by Trinidad in my opinion). The best fight for boxing would be Mayweather/Margarito, even though Oscar/Mayweather would generate more money. In my mind, Mayweather beats Hatton similar to the way he beat Castillo. But of course, it's all speculation until we see the actual fights, just hope they happen.

I think floyd would beat Hatton

the best fight for boxing right now would have to be ODH vs PBF 4sho
