hey guys, i was watching my fedor fights recently and i noticed the guys amazingly fast foot speed in closing the distance for takedowns or big punches. i was wondering if any of you had some suggestions on how to train this. thanks.

practice take downs... but if you dont have anyone else to practice with try switch step kicking.... stand right leg back... and switch your feet really quick to do a left round house kick and back and forth....
other than that just practice shuffling to the side

Well he does Sambo, but ya, pretty much what xhale said. I do kickboxing so we do quite a bit of foot speed, alot of sidestepping drills while throwing out punching combinations. Starting in the wrong stance, and then quickly switching stances and then doing whatever the drill might be (target mitts, bag...). If you just concentrate on it and be aware of it, its fairly easy to get good at.
Fedor does Judo with sambo... perfectly.

Ive heard that NFL players use Judo training to help with balance and footwork, so I'd assume it has some merit.

Judo is good to train off balance moves
