View Full Version : newb questions about kickboxing...
SD_ATOmega119 10-02-2006, 12:25 AM alrite i'vs been following boxing and mma for years now and i ahve been following kickboxing ver very lil...so i want to get involved and start getting into kickboxing so i have a few questions...
1. Is there a database site similair to sherdog with fighter stats ect.?
2. Im confused about the rules when i do watch it i hear terms like thai rules, western rules etc etc., and when i watch k-1 on espn they dont allow clinches and thats bullshit...the type thats on espn classic (it the one in thailand with the crazy music in the backround) is crazy and that to me is real kickboxing.
Tom Stall 10-02-2006, 02:04 PM k-1 max rules changed cause a thai guy came and beat all the farangs up.....
tropicana619 10-02-2006, 07:27 PM Yeah, you're not allowed more than one knee in a clinch from now on.
tropicana619 10-02-2006, 07:27 PM Try K-1 Fans for stats you're looking for.
SD_ATOmega119 10-02-2006, 07:48 PM so ur saying there is no website...and there is only one know in the clinch bc some thai guy beat up everyone else...bullshit...im starting to not like k-1 from the get-go but i ust got this year world gp and im giving it a shot...
Tom Stall 10-02-2006, 08:23 PM go watch 2004 gp. a thai man kneed the shit outta masato and made him piss blood. it was embarrassing so they changed the rules for 2005 so the thai man will lose..... but he got to the finals and was robbed in a decision so thai man worked very hard on punching and this year he punched everyone to sleep and modified his clinch where he doesn't need to hold the opponent.
there was another thaiman and he fought big guys and he got robbed by a 7 foot korean man in the finals.
Now there is going to be a new thai man from fairtex and he is going to pwn everyone.
ninjashoes 10-02-2006, 10:19 PM k-1 fight finder is incomplete
SD_ATOmega119 10-05-2006, 01:12 AM just saw the 2004 gp and i am a fan now that was awesome...but mma is better ;)
toofastfiveoh 10-13-2006, 10:10 PM Ya K-1 is cool but I agree that MMA is way more exciting to watch
bigmasta 11-07-2006, 05:31 PM k1 is good but the rules suck
Muaythaiwar 11-09-2006, 01:21 AM they need to change K1 rules a bit to allow more clinching. It would be cool
Muaythaiwar 11-09-2006, 01:21 AM k-1 max rules changed cause a thai guy came and beat all the farangs up.....
Who was the tai guy who came in and ownt them?
TheRich 11-10-2006, 04:57 AM Buakaw
JohnMc 11-19-2006, 10:37 PM There are quite a few styles of Kickboxing.
Muay Thai: Knees, Elbows, and clinch allowed
Full-Contact Kickboxing/Full-Contact Karate/American Kickboxing, etc. No low kicks, no clinch, no knees or elbows, 8 kick per round minimum. Wear kickboxing shoes [they look like something karate/tkd students use in point fighting]
International/ K-1 rules.
San Shou/Sanda Kickboxing with throws.
Savate French Kickboxing with shoes
ninjashoes 11-19-2006, 11:07 PM I dont think K-1 promoters want the clinch. If you watch some muay thai fights they can sometimes spend the whole fight just clinching and it takes away some of the excitment of pure striking.
Iceman07 01-01-2007, 11:06 PM Clinching is like a rest hold, but agreed it takes away from the striking.
HALFbakedHAWK 01-04-2007, 02:30 AM No knees from the clinch is SUPER GAY!!!!! Muay Thai RULES ALL!!!! It has been proven again, and again, and again.
simply 01-04-2007, 04:48 AM go watch 2004 gp. a thai man kneed the shit outta masato and made him piss blood. it was embarrassing so they changed the rules for 2005 so the thai man will lose..... but he got to the finals and was robbed in a decision so thai man worked very hard on punching and this year he punched everyone to sleep and modified his clinch where he doesn't need to hold the opponent.

hahaha this sounds like a fairytale. By the way, who's the thai man from fairtex who will pwn everyone?
I don't like the argument that the clinch should be banned because it's boring and a time waster because it's such a big part of muay thai and if fighters in K1 are being devastated by it (ie buakaw), then that's one aspect of their stand up game that they should seek to improve. Also, it's not boring watching a clinch in K1 or muay thai because the fighters are usually active and kneeing the shit out of each other.
Star Destroyer 01-04-2007, 05:25 AM where can i see this 04 gp?
Hater_Huntin 01-04-2007, 09:42 AM I enjoy all forms of martial arts. Kickboxing has it's exicting fights just like mma but it also has it's boring ones.
Tom Stall 01-05-2007, 04:02 AM hahaha this sounds like a fairytale. By the way, who's the thai man from fairtex who will pwn everyone?

JohnMc 01-11-2007, 07:37 PM Thanks for those youtube vids.
magz88 01-12-2007, 03:45 PM in norway we aren't allowed to kick belowe the belt..(we can sweep foot).. so the rules here for kickboxing are lame.
combatbasedonny 01-13-2007, 12:36 AM although K1 does not allow alot of clinch etc. it is still viewed as the competition that determines the No1 strikers in the world.
I miss the old K-1 where they had all forms of striking...now it's all kickboxing pretty much and i agree some of the fights are slow and boring but watch some light/middle weight fights. These guys are pretty kick and will do some nice moves.
thaiboxer 02-14-2007, 04:16 PM K-1 has gown downhill lately. I hope yodsanklai fairtex rattles some heads.
thaiboxer 02-14-2007, 04:19 PM The best of K-1 2004 has alot of good fight highlights and fighter interviews if you can find it.
dragonfly 02-15-2007, 03:01 AM go watch 2004 gp. a thai man kneed the shit outta masato and made him piss blood. it was embarrassing so they changed the rules for 2005 so the thai man will lose..... but he got to the finals and was robbed in a decision so thai man worked very hard on punching and this year he punched everyone to sleep and modified his clinch where he doesn't need to hold the opponent.
