I think GSP, trains some good stuff but a bit gimmicky, where as BJ's training is not specialised enough, I don't know enoughabout how each of them traini, this view is only based on the videos you have chosen. I think both fighter would do better if they stole some methods of each other, BJ could do with some speed work[plyos, stretch bands etc], and GSP could do with less of the gimmicky moves and some heavy ass iron lifting with a higher rep rang then 3, you don't want to power out after 3-4 hard shots thrown cause that how you train in the gym, get them reps to 6-9.
I think GSPs method of training has its place, im sure he does a variety. The only usefullness i see in BJs trainign is if he is trying to bulk up, but even then i would think there would be a more functional way to do that. I dont think machines have any place in MMA. or any sport for that matter. I'm no expert though.

To me GSP's routine looks way more beneficial, it looks like poor BJ's guys have him body building.

Penn has never relied on his strength in the past.
No doubt son, but he is getting committed to being in better shape and stuff and doing it improperly. Imagine if he trained smart like GSP. BOY HE WOULD BE A FORCE.

its a means to an end. bjs true workouts happen on the mat. bj isnt near the athlete gsp is, so maybe his woeight training is a little more basic by design.
What? That didn't make any sense.

I think that Judoka's saying that BJ doesn't need to strength train like GSP cos his fighting style (primarily BJJ) doesn't require or benefit from it in the same way that GSP's does. He needs explosive strength in order to dominate his opponents, though obviously that's just part of what GSP's got.
That routine is counterproductive to MMA though.

I agree that machines (Smith, hammer strength, etc) are for the ladies. I also agree that this video doesn't depict a super mma specific weight routine. BUT- all the caveman training sherk does still got him a complete serving of ass whoopin. GSP >>>>> Sherk, but the weight training and such only goes so far. BJ puts in tons of mat work, and this is only one video. (I do think it is a little excessive to have three guys around you while your benching like 160.) You could look at a picture of each guy from their last fight and make a determination about what type of protocol they follow- doesnt necessarily mean anything.

He will gas quick if his plan is to fight GSP man-to-man.
His body isn't use to it. Even if he hold his own he will start fatiguing due to his inexperience of using his body like that.

Maybe, but less muscle equals more gas to stuff takedowns and jab/move. (Not that this is the best strategy for BJ to use, honestly I think GSP will win this, just not because BJ is using the shoulder press machine instead of juggling kettlebells in intervals.)
Hey I'm not trying to say BJ doesn't do good things in training. I'm saying this stuff he is doing is BS waste of his time and he is prob better off not doing it. Also not saying that this means he will lose.

dosnt matter what bj dose hes not going to catch up to gsps strength and he should focus on getting the sweep cause gsp will take him down and gnp all day
Yea i doubt he could ever make it to GSP's gym rat status, but it certainly would help to get a better routine.

I hope for BJ's sake that those videos of him training are a big joke. I can't believe BJ would bring is some fucking tards like that to train him. BJ has a bottomless bank account and is a renowned athlete. I'm sure he could pull world-class trainers.
Seriously, my high school strength coach knew more than these guys apparently do.
