Do you think we really have the best goverment or simply the most money? I think democracy is pretty good but it seems to me we only have two choices every election, Republican or Democrat. It seems to be who actually becomes president is very controlled by powerful people so it ends up not really being the people who decide the next president. I still don't understand how the guy who loses the popular vote becomes president. Does anyone really understand the reason for an electoral college other than a way to further take control of the election out of the peoples hands? Would it be too far out to say alot of our freedoms we percieve are actually complex illusions?

My old college Politics teacher said it best:

Democracy is the least of all evils.

The best governement would be Plato's benevolant dictatorship BUT that's an impossibility ;)

I read about Plato's "Utopia". The idea is to have leaders grow up in camps where they are forced to eat plain food and do the same things everyday to make them boring and not desire power.

I don't think any of today's leaders followed Plato's Utopia

plato's concept of the philosopher king isn't plausible in today's society.
also americans don't have healthcare but they also don't lose half or more of their money to taxes.

i understand what you are saying butpoor cannot afford higher taxes. its almost impossible to live on minimum wage. the united states poverty is defined by 3 times the cost of one basket of food. Its not really a good judge but thats what the us uses. food is getting cheaper while cost of living is higher. if i am making 20 g a year i cannot afford the higher flat taxes most of these socialist countries have.

also ppl are living way longer. the social security and medicare is going to need major reforms soon. higher taxes and longer living ppl will crush the middle and lower class. you can tax the rich but the rich will invest less and it can also kill the economy.

I would say we have the most money, are goverment is not perfect but its getting way to corrupt personally i will be glad to see bush be gone and maybe have a democrat for president, This whole war right now is really messed up. They should announce what bills are trying to be passed more often they have slipped the cover over are eyes way to many times, a little change and we would be alot better. I know no one probaly cares about green personally i dont really care but we should try and improve and evolve from some of the things we are doing.Like our gas right now we should go to hydrogen of some sort of a substitute

Right now no. For the last few years we have seen many of or civil liberties eroded away. We have seen more power give to the large corporations. We are a bit to deep in full swing unfettered capitalist mode right now. Damn near close to Facism.( for those that don't know Facism is a marriage between Government and Buisness, with the common man short changed.)

I like Capitalism, don't get me wrong. But Capitalism like anything else needs some limits.

Capitalism in it's current incarnation is like a rigged game of poker. It is painfully evident it fucks over the majority of us.
It's really naive to think voting in a democrat is going to change facist america. The parties are one and the same thing. Government is merely the shadow cast by the corporate masters. The democrat v republican charade is a diversion, a smokescreen.

Among my favourite websites are Znet and InformationclearingHouse. A good place to start reading about geopolitics.

I'd also suggest reading Greg Palasts 'Armed Madhouse'. I downloaded the audio book torrent and it is just an outstanding piece of work.

I've seen the same thing. And they always name the bill or law the opposite of what it is. Like the Patriot Act.
