What's better than beating the Devils 4-1?

Seeing Sidney Crosby score a hat trick and practically being able to hear Newton scream in rage all the way from Pittsburgh.

Seeing Axe's Bruins skunk Odin's Wings is a nice bonus for the night also.

so... that makes them 1 and 1? You're killing us this season... just killing us.

Damn, I figured you would be a good sport like I was earlier this season, but surprisingly you are being a surly sour pus like Odin. I know it hurts man, considering this was probably your last chance to try to close the gap with the Pens - it must be frustrating to realize you are going to chase us all season in utter futility.

I'm confused. Why should I be a good sport? You made a thread taunting me in a 1-0 game and then lost. This was a winnable game for the Devils, even with all the injury shit they're going through, I'm a little disappointed, but I'll survive.

We're 1 and 1. 5 points back. With a game at hand. 1/4 of the way through the season, and this is our only chance to close the gap?

I've already come to terms with the fact that the Devils will finish in 5th, 6th, 7th or 8th due to missing Marty. When we get Rolston and Holik back (more Rolston than Holik) then maybe I'll start looking to a division title, but it's not really within our reach missing Marty for 2/3 of the season.

It's not like the Pens are going to win the division either. Both of our teams will chase the Rangers all year. You should just pray that Fleury stays injured so you can get some good goaltending this season.

then we lost Marty.

It's tough to get fired up for games where you are missing 1/2 your team.

i.e. Marty and Rolston.

I'm just happy to be in a playoff spot.

Had we lost 4-1 with Marty in net... you would've heard me slit my wrists.

The NHL has suspended Dallas Stars' forward Sean Avery, pending a hearing with the league, and he will not be playing in tonight's game against the Calgary Flames.

Avery is being suspended for disparaging remarks he made this morning in reference to Calgary player Dion Phaneuf and Phaneuf's girl friend Elisha Cuthbert, who previously had a relationship with Avery.

"I am really happy to be back in Calgary, I love Canada," Avery said on camera this morning in Calgary. "I just want to comment on how it's become like a common thing in the NHL for guys to fall in love with my sloppy seconds. I don't know what that's about. Enjoy the game tonight."

Details to follow.

The Avery thing is bullshit. It was a funny quip said with no cuss words or anything. If he came out and said "Phaneuf's girlfriend is a whore" or something I could see it, but it was more of a small dig at Dion IMO.

And how does it "disgrace" or "damage" the league by making fun of guys for dating your ex girlfriends? I mean really, that doesn't deserve an indefinite suspension, and I think EVERYONE knows it but because its Mr Villian Sean Avery no one cares.

Well the pens do have the #1 and #2 points leading spot and 75 goals for on the season to NJs 65. Not a ton but more firepower 4sho. Parise and Elias are the only ones putting up decent numbers.

As a newfoundlander I'm psyched with Clowe's season so far, he has 23 points I think (2 off of NJs best Parise haha). He has a rediculously stacked team though.

Sean Avery's words embarrassed his teammates Tuesday. But his suspension thrilled them. And many Stars are hoping that "indefinitely" means "forever."

On camera last night, you could see the frustration and anger in the Dallas players' eyes, but they chose their words carefully. Today, I spoke to three Stars players, who were blunt in their assessment of Avery. They agreed to be quoted as long as their names were not used.

"We hope it's the last time we ever see him," says one veteran.

"Our locker room is the happiest it has been all year right now," says another player.

Avery's weak attempt at stand-up comedy/trash-talk in Calgary was the last straw for many teammates.
He told them in the dressing room he was going to do something outrageous, saying, "Watch this boys," a couple of minutes before he stepped before the microphones.

They weren't shocked. Nothing Avery does shocks anymore. They were just angry.

"An apology (to the team) won't work," says a third player. "There isn't much he can say to change the way we feel right now. We have a lot of pride in this organization. He isn't welcome here anymore."

Avery has been an outcast in the dressing room from the start of the season. He wears headphones almost all the time, and rarely speaks to anyone, often working on his computer until minutes before practice. That might be tolerated if he (and the team) were performing well on the ice. But he hasn't been, with just three goals so far.

"He's been undermining everything we do," says the veteran. "He doesn't pay attention; he's not smart enough to play our system. He can't do some drills properly. He says it's because he's 'independent.'
Really, he's just not smart enough."

Dallas forward Brad Richards did go on record, but chose not to add fuel to the fire. Still, his feelings are clear.

"We don't want to talk about him anymore. Hopefully, it will be handled and that will be the end of it."

Sources say Dallas owner Tom Hicks is already exploring every possible way to get rid of Avery. Trading him might be impossible right now, because of his extensive baggage, and a four-year contract at almost four million dollars per season. The Stars could elect to send him down, and since Dallas does not have an AHL affiliate, they could try to assign him to.... anywhere.

One of the Stars suggested Finland or Russia would be good choices.

The first sport I actually played was hockey. I had a VHS tape called from Oates to Neely to you. I admit I havent watched the Bruins play too much the past few years but that was because of management. I used to watch every game when the Boobs had Thornton. My favorite Bruins ever include Stan Jonathan, Terry O'Reilly, Cam Neely, Ray Bourque, Lindon Byars, I use to like Jason Allison, Sergei Samsonov, Doug Doull, PJ Stock, Bryan Berard, Dmitri Kristych, and my all time favorite Bruin was a bum after one season...anyone remember Blaine Lacher? Got his autograph after he had a great first year then he became a back up after the Bruins got Jim Carrey from the Capitals.

I think its cowardly that his teammates won't allow themselves to be quoted. I mean I can understand if you don't want to talk about it, but if you want to make an opinion public you should have the balls to stand behind your words. Caps dress Web site producer as backup goalie
Friday, 12.12.2008 / 11:59 PM / News
By NHL.com Staff
As a Web site producer, Brett Leonhardt spends game nights posting video of the Washington Capitals. On Friday night, he got to be a Cap — at least for a few minutes.

The 6-foot-7 former Division III goaltender, who's worked for the team for nearly a year, dressed as the Caps' backup goalie for their game against the Ottawa Senators. After Jose Theodore went down with a hip flexor injury during the morning skate, Leonhardt signed an amateur tryout contract and was in uniform for the pregame warmup and the first half of the first period, backing up Brent Johnson. Sergei Varlamov, who was recalled from the minors but couldn't get to the Verizon Center before the game, arrived and replaced him on the bench for the rest of the Caps' 5-1 win.

"Every dream come true," said Leonhardt, who has served as a spare goaltender at practices for the team. "Growing up in Canada, playing since I was 4. It was just very surreal. It was a blur, went by real quick."

Leonhardt said he was got the word during the morning skate that he might be filling a different function than he usually does on game nights.

"Jose had a short practice," he said during a between-periods interview during the Caps' game telecast. "George (McPhee, the Caps' GM), kind of came into my cubicle, tapped me on the shoulder and just told me, 'Make sure your gear is down at Verizon and be ready to go at five.'"

Varlamov was on the road with Hershey, the Caps' top farm team, which played at San Antonio on Thursday night. He was in Houston, where the Bears play Saturday, when he got the call, and headed for Washington — but the Caps knew he wouldn't get there in time for the 7:05 faceoff, so they got a dispensation from the NHL to dress three goaltenders.

Caps coach Bruce Boudreau said he wasn't worried.

"Before the game, I was talking with (goaltending coach) Dave Prior, and he was telling me tendencies of the 'D' and communication, and I was like, 'Dave, let's hope we don't have to worry about that.'" -- Brett Leonhardt

"Once I left the arena it was all done and I didn't think about it until I got back and found out (Varlamov) wasn't going to make it here, and then you start worrying about it again," Boudreau said after the game. "To me it's a moot point. We either have Brett, yes, or we don't, and we have Varley, and I can't let that consume 90 percent of my day when it's only maybe 10 percent of the problem at this point. Now if Brett couldn't go, then I might have been a little worried. But Brett was tossing pucks to the crowd like he knew what he was doing, so I had no fears."

While Leonhardt was taking part in the warmup, Varlamov’s plane was touching down and he was hurriedly getting dressed in the car en route from the airport to the Verizon Center, with Ian Anderson, director of team services, at the wheel. Varlamov replaced Leonhardt, who wore No. 80, on the Caps’ bench midway through the first period.

Leonhardt said he didn't expect to see any action, although it wasn't impossible — he skated at Thursday's practice because Johnson had a sore hip after a fall during Wednesday's 3-1 win over Boston and Boudreau wanted to give him the day off.

"It didn't cross my mind," he said of the possibility of actually facing shots in an NHL game. "Before the game, I was talking with (goaltending coach) Dave Prior, and he was telling me tendencies of the 'D' and communication, and I was like, 'Dave, let's hope we don't have to worry about that.'"

Leonhardt, 26, played two years for SUNY Oswego in New York and two years for Neumann College near Philadelphia. According to U.S. College Hockey Online, the Waterloo, Ontario, native had a 13-2-2 record in 21 appearances during his four years in college, including a 7-1-2 mark with a 2.66 goals-against average and one shutout in 2004-05, his second year at Oswego.

Material from wire services and team broadcast was used in this report.

THE FUCK?

Canucks and FLames have the same record but the flames are given 3rd place. what the fuck is up with that? According to the tie breaking procedure the canucks should be 3rd because they have every single one of those tie breakers won. FUCK YOU NHL, JUST FUCK YOU AND YOUR SHIT FACE.

Tie-Breaking procedure
If two or more clubs are tied in points during the regular season, the standing of the clubs is determined in the following order:

* The fewer number of games played (i.e., superior points percentage). SAME GAMES.
* The greater number of games won. SAME.
* The greater number of points earned in games between the tied clubs. If two clubs are tied, and have not played an equal number of home games against each other, points earned in the first game played in the city that had the extra game shall not be included. If more than two clubs are tied, the higher percentage of available points earned in games among those clubs, and not including any "odd" games, shall be used to determine the standing. VANCOUVER IS FUCKING DOMINATING THAT.
* The greater differential between goals for and against for the entire regular season. VANCOUVER IS MOTHER FUCKING DOMINATING THAT TOO.

Question for ya Fubar... it's 2-0 Canucks right now and the Oilers are coming off a 9-2 loss to Chicago....

are the Canucks that good... or are the Oilers just that bad?

And I am aware the Canucks are over-achieving without Luongo.

since im guessing any of you pens wankers (thats right fire, i called you a wanker) arent going to mention the cowardly act of your golden boy, im going to have to. evidently, sid the kid cant fight one on one, and has to throw punches at guys already engaged in fights. even resorts to punching guys in the taint as referees drag him away from the double team. saw this in a highlight clip from their game with the thrashers.

Bruins win but Bergeron is out. He got laid out on a clean play. His head has been fucked up in the past so hopefully he can return again soon.
