A report out today by The Manila Standard Today.com indicates that Manny Pacquiao says he plans to retire from competitive boxing as early as next year, 2007.

Pacquiao told this in an interview with reporters on Wednesday in General Santos City. Pacquiao said he wanted to focus on his businesses, and continue with Manny Pacquiao Promotions.

The Minal Standard quotes Paquiao as saying: “Maybe after about two fights, I will retire already. I want to personally supervise my business ventures. It really makes a difference when one manages his own business.”.

Pacquiao faces Erik Morales in a rubber match on Nov. 18 in Las Vegas. Then Pacquiao will follow up with a fight against Marco Antonio Barrera.

Pacquiao indicated to the press that he didn't want to retire with physical or mental disabilities and wants to enjoy his life and the quality of it after he hangs up his gloves.
