I'm gonna go with Ali.
For me Ali is the best ever HW, P4P would be Sugar Ray Robinson
my favourites are Ali and Kostya Tszyu, and ofcourse Jeff Fenech

roy jones jr.
he was sick. his footwork was so good that at times he wouldnt even have to put his guard up.
he had one punch knock out power.
best reflexes.
and just the combination of power with speed was crazy.
(another example being mike tyson)
SUGAR RAY ROBINSON, best P4P of all time. ALI greatest HW of all time, those are my top 2.
Sugar Ray was 123-2-1 in his first 126 fights. thats fuckin insane!!!!!!!!!!
Roy Jones was one of the greats no doubt, but I think he needed to beat some better oposition for me to rank him No.1
Ali fought in the hardest HW division ever and he was the best in it to
SRR was truely p4p's best ever fighter, talk about speed and power and you get SRR

Tyson could have been the best.
im sorry but i have to say tyson... p4p the best.
hahaha, he was the most talented, but here's just a short list of better boxers: Ali, Foreman, Holyfield, Lewis, Joe Louis, and Sonny Liston.

Ray Mancini could have been a good 1 but when the ref wouldn't stop the fight with that Korean and Ray killed him, that fucked him up and couldn't get his head right to fight to much after that.
lol@ Tyson p4p best
if that wasnt a lame joke you obviously dont know much about boxing
Tyson = Boxings biggest ever dissappointment
he never beat anyone near Ali's level or Joe Louis,Foreman,Frazier,Marciano or ofcourse Lennox Lewis and Holyfield
Tyson was a brilliant puncher and he was definatly one of my favourites but the guy was a huge dissappointment

I agree....he's like the vitor belfort of boxing. So much potential all down the drain. He was quick, strong and seemed to know what he was doing. His record would have looked better had he retired earlier but 50-6 is not bad IMO.

Without a doubt my pick is Tyson(before prison). He had an unbeatable style thanks to Costamato that perfectly suited his punching power - then Don King happened. I only acknowledge Lennox Lewis as the only man to actually have beaten Tyson.
what about Holyfield and Douglas?
cmon man, Tyson isnt even a top ten HW let alone p4p
sure he looked great to watch when he was blowing away guys like Spinks but when his style was figured out first by people like Smith then finally Buster put him away he was no longer the unbeatable guy everyone wanted him to be
Im a huge Tyson fan, he was my first favourite fighter but im the first to say he doesnt deserve to be in the top ten ever
Try watching some Ali fights or even Foreman before you come in here showing just how little you know about boxing
Im not trying to be an ass im just stateing the truth

George Foreman has to be at the top, young and old George.
Its Sugar Ray Robinson and Ali, bar none, maybe marciano who retired undefeated but didnt fight the quality of fighters Ali did.
George was beaten by a past his prime Ali when George was at his peak
so whats that say for Ali?
sorry its cool to have your own opinions but lets just all remember
Kostya and CHE are right and you are wrong :)

After lying on the canvas for nearly an hour, he was finally transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital where he eventually died of extensive brain hemorrhages. An autopsy revealed that Baer's devastating blows had knocked Campbell's entire brain loose from the connective tissue holding it in place within his cranium.

but best EVER P4P?

what is the criteria for these rankings?.. i've seen p4p rankings on some boxing sites having pacquiao @ #2 and floyd mayweather as #1
pacquiao has an exciting style.. and i think he's the most entertaining to watch..

this is interesting
On that day (June 13th, 1935), one of the greatest upsets in boxing history transpired in Long Island City, New York, when Baer fought down and out boxer James J. Braddock. After a gruelling back and forth battle, Braddock won the heavyweight championship of the world as a 10 to 1 underdog. Braddock took heavy hits from Baer but kept coming until he wore Baer down. At the end, the judges gave Braddock the title with a unanimous decision. The fight has since become a boxing legend.
The Baer versus Braddock bout was depicted in the 2005 motion picture Cinderella Man The portrayal of Baer in that film has since been criticized for portraying him in an unfairly negative light. Baer was shown as arrogant and even sadistic, showing no remorse over the death of boxer Campbell at his hand a few years earlier. However, it is known that Campbell's death bothered him greatly. Rather than swaggering, in actuality Baer was remembered as being jolly and full of laughter, and joked often. In film footage of the Braddock fight, Baer often smiles broadly, feins a near knock-down for laughs, and in defeat is gracious to Braddock—not at all as in the villainous manner Director Ron Howard portrays him in the film. However, the film does show Baer accepting defeat graciously, smiling and clapping at the victory of Braddock. It can also be argued that the depiction of Max Baer in the film is no different than his depiction in the press at the time, and this image was often used by promoters to attract interest in his fights. And, while he shows little remorse for the death of Campbell, the Max Baer on screen never actually boasts about killing Campbell either (as some have claimed). However, this movie was based on the life of Braddock and his perception of Baer at the time. As mentioned previously, he was depicted in the press as a killer. Perhaps more significantly, it should be noted that his depiction in Cinderella man is much less hostile than the boxer he himself played in the movie The Harder They Fall, a role which was clearly based on himself.
Max Baer boxed in eighty-four professional fights from 1929 to 1941. In all, his record was 72-12-0 (53 knockouts), which makes him a member of the exclusive group of boxers to have won fifty or more bouts by knockout. He fought Lou Nova in the first televised heavyweight prizefight, on June 1, 1939, on WNBT-TV in New York. His last match was another loss to Nova, in 1941. Baer and his brother, Buddy, both lost fights to Joe Louis, Buddy's two losses to Louis coming in world title fights.

the thread is Greatest of all time. BTW Floyd Mayweather is the unquestioned P4P best right now. he'd destroy anyone near his weight class. I worry he will beat down my boy De la Hoya next.
I figure the greatest P4P ever was Sugar Ray Robinson, cuz not only did they invent the saying "Pound for Pound" cuz of SRR, but he also was bad as hell. Someone mentioned Lamotta, who was as tough as anyone who ever fought, and SRR beat him 5 out of 6 times. Ali is the greatest HW ever, IMO.

oh yeah for sure his is one of the top p4p today but I thought we were talking about best ever
to danxgerous, Mike Tyson never fought Riddick Bowe his best ever performance against a true title threat would probly be his 90 second destruction of Micheal Spinks (former world champion)
it could be argued that it was against Holmes maybe but Larry was way beyond his prime by the time they fought
Mike was champ in a pretty weak era of HW boxing
Like I said the guy was one of my favourites but he was not the best HW
HW easily goes to Ali or even Joe Louis I keep hearing but for me Ali was the Greatest

I've seen both of the fights you mentioned:
Douglas vs Tyson - The long count by the ref is my reason for not giving Douglas his dues.
Holyfield vs Tyson 1 - In the 1st Round, Tyson was after Holyfield and damn near knocked him out. He had Holyfield up against the ropes and then suddenly backed off when he had Holyfield beaten. I honestly believe that Tyson took a payoff so that he could cash in big
time on a rematch.
As for Foreman & Ali:
I respect & admire George Foreman as both a person & a fighter. He's in my Top 5 of Greatest Boxers of All-Time.
I hate Ali - I consider him the most overrated fighter in boxing. The only fights I enjoy are the ones where he got his ass handed to him(like when he was fighting the great Larry Holmes).

Tyson never fought Bowe - I wish they did but I guess that will always remain as a dream fight.
lmao at the long count, Tyson still got his ass beat and as for him taking a pay off in the fight with Holyfield, whatever makes you feel better man
you enjoyed seeing a past his prime guy with brain damage get beat by the Champ?
you rank Foreman over the guy who beat him?
Tyson is #1?
dude you should seriously think about finding another sport

As for the Holyfield fight - its so damn obvious that Tyson had been paid off cause I've yet to ever see him fight like he did in that match in any of his following bouts.
I didn't say I enjoyed Tyson losing to Lewis, I just acknowledge that it was the only real fight(in my opinion)that he was defeated in. At that point in Tyson's career, he had some of the worst trainers and just wasn't a match-up for an Emmanual Steward-trained Lewis.
As I've made it clear - I despise Ali, both the person & the boxer. He might have been involved in some of the best HW bouts at the time but that doesn't mean I have to like him or hail him as the greatest like all of you people seem to do. I would include Ali in a top 25
list but he sure as hell would not be in the top 15, 10 or 5 of my list. There are just so many other boxers that I feel are far superior compared to Muhammed Ali.
As far as finding another sport I already have: Mixed Martial Arts. This is so much more entertaining than boxing and any other sport that comes to mind. I haven't been a hardcore boxing fan since 2000.
ok please name 15 heavyweights that were better than Ali
Im guessing you're gonna have a bunch of guys who Ali beat and Tyson will be there
