I was wondering whether its true when they say that in knowledge lies the salvation. I read in a book (Life of Osho) where it is said that after he got enlightened, says he used to read 15-20 books in a day, everyday with some sort of speed reading technique he has developed. Sounds incredible; doesn’t it? I have a hunch it is true. And even then, I doubt if he would have been able to read all the “relevant” books in the world.
Jim Corbett was an accomplished hunter. Hunting was in vogue in those days and considered a noble profession. Only the gentlemen of elitist families went out for hunting. During the time of World Wars, it was considered GOOD to be patriotic and die for your country defending her honor. War was glorified and people indeed believed it was indeed a good thing. Cities were bombed and life of common people was not given much value; every man of the rival country was an enemy who deserved to die. But they were all just phases that people grew out of. Slavery was accepted at one time and slaves were considered lesser humans.
Currently, it seems delightful to tackle the intellectual challenges of physical and metaphysical worlds. Is it just another whim? I can only wonder. I don’t think so – it doesn’t seem to be like that; but it might be – we need to consider it as a possibility. Religion might also be one of those things. But it has been around for centuries. The way I see it, the whole purpose of Religion IMO is to help a human being transcend; to “evolve” and grow out of this “human phase and step into the “god” phase; Much like the development of Pokemons in the popular cartoon series.
Hell! Human being seems like a fashion; a blip in the universe lasting for a mere tick on the astronomical clock – maybe an aberration (“And it makes me scream, “What the fuck is “this”; Why the fuck is “this””); Am I a whim of a child; a child who is in control of the universe; whatever it might be. It might just be a play for a childish but really bright god. Maybe that’s why there’s a popular Muslim belief that says that all children go to heaven; they are most human - god like conceptions that humans can think of.
Isn’t it most perplexing that most of the basic questions that arise in human mind regarding the universe remain unanswered? What is universe? Does space really exist? What exactly is time? What is the meaning and purpose of life? What is reality? What is good and bad?
As maddening these questions are and even though I don’t have a slightest idea how to go about solving them, I do think that I’ll find peace when I find answer to these; when I find that clarity. Maybe that will be my salvation. Every man does not want but consciously strives to reach an end point. Could it be that those who set it too far, those with too much stamina, too much curiosity are the ones who move the human race further? Or do they “disturb” the human race too much?
Thoughts? Opinions?
