I know it's known as the "boxer's muscle", but will a weakness of this muscle effect your punching much? Is it important to strengthen this muscle? And are their any exercises in particular than can isolate it?

An excellent exercise to focus on the serratus anterior and it's upward rotation component is the diagonal arm lift.<object class="BLOG_video_class" id="BLOG_video-32488f68da184c7c" classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0" height="266" width="320"><param name="movie" value="http://www.blogger.com/img/videoplayer.swf?videoUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fvp.video.goo gle.com%2Fvideodownload%3Fversion%3D0%26secureurl% 3DqgAAAKXn9zyzXTyW6NoE_4ojujpjT3aB9BECPdUjMgvIkmtT 2maYyr9G2ZcIUrZIlQjCEv4L_Q5PSOUyao86w6yFR98ef3APkN MMOQ6NFBm-hC4Xtpb_finVh4vtck62JxOPc4zvQ9bnlGyau7PAgtU59-X4_5MO9SELfFBrmUo_6-SkO5HiJDyidSVbtJMNgwLoyUS2o5qW13tzX_Mirb7RlkJWkCnb FWJqClza55BfK_px%26sigh%3DsWLZRIZrzBMq2lHufwxdUPZ0-18%26begin%3D0%26len%3D86400000%26docid%3D0&amp;nogvlm =1&amp;thumbnailUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fvideo.google.com%2FTh umbnailServer2%3Fapp%3Dblogger%26contentid%3D32488 f68da184c7c%26offsetms%3D5000%26itag%3Dw320%26sigh %3DEcOC1JuFQILH0DyM9XJECCbR-HA&amp;messagesUrl=video.google.com%2FFlashUiStrings.x lb%3Fframe%3Dflashstrings%26hl%3Den">

Putting the back against a wall will help to cue you to keep the shoulders and torso from rotating. The key is to keep the arm externally rotated, which will limit the activity of the upper pec and anterior deltoid.<br>
