Post Bash Thoughts…

I am writing this on Monday morning, after catching a ride from Long Island to Philly to prepare for Tuesday’s Friday Night Smackdown taping. No small feat in the backseat of a moving vehicle on the Jersey Turnpike using a Blackberry. :)
Overall I thought the Great American Bash was a solid show that had some good moments. No athlete “mailed it in,” which is something I personally always look for, nor was the PPV a “talkfest”. I do wish some of the bouts had more time for them to transact their business.
The biggest news out of the WWE Tag Title bout is that the titles, can’t say “straps,” are on Smackdown. Hawkins and Ryder could make a fine duo in time, but I still have “major” problems telling them apart.
Shelton Benjamin grabbed the brass ring..again. Let’s see if this gifted athlete can “run w/ the ball” and finally live up to his potential. Matt Hardy will likely turn his sights on the ECW Title if I were guessing.
Mark Henry dominated a game and gutsy Tommy Dreamer in a successful ECW Title defense aptly broadcast by “The Adamle” and “The Tazz”.
Colin Delaney, who is in dire need of at worst a faux tan, turned his back on Dreamer, which means a Hardcore woodshed has to be in Delaney’s future.
HBK vs Y2J was strong as expected. Jericho is a stud but Michaels is the maestro. Lance Cade is also benefitting from this issue.
Short but otherwise effective Diva Title bout w/ Michelle McCool, whose parents were there watching as I understand it, just got by Natalya Neidhart with a Brazilian ankle hook submission. Natalya will be right back in the hunt and remains my favorite Diva, as it relates to strictly in ring wrestling.
I did not like the conclusion of the Punk- Batista World Title Bout thanks to Kane and his newly rediscovered criminally insane mind. I hate to see title bouts at a PPV end via disqualification, etc so thanks Kane…for nothing.
Cena vs JBL was bowling show ugly, physical and dangerous, especially being surrounded by metal and concrete. The JBL win surprised me.
HHH-Edge was a great close to the show. I felt like Mick Foley and yours truly had one of our better calls since we have been partners on Smackdown. We utilized the WWE’s philosophy of “telling a story,” but did do some traditional play by play at times and tried to incorporate some historical data. I am personally proud of Mick’s efforts and certainly hope the multi-talented former wrestler w/ so many skills and talents will continue to work with me on SD. I know that I am having fun and I would like to think that our team is improving each week.
Back to the match…
It’s obvious HHH and Edge have great chemistry. Looking into the future speculatively, I would suggest that Edge will now focus on his marital issues, while HHH awaits his next, big challenge.
There’s a delicious Philly cheese steak in my future, which is not a bad thing.
BTW…both JR’s Family Bar-B-Q places had awesome weekends as we sold a bunch of delicious ribs w/ some guests saying that we have THE best ribs they have ever had. More exciting Bar-B-Q days lie ahead and perhaps some day Good ‘Ol JR will indeed be known as “The Baron of Bar-B-Q”. :)
