Not able to sign a deal w/ Joe Calzaghe, who is in turn fighting Roy Jones Jr., Pavlik is reduced to fighting another alphabet soup belt holder or moving up to face Hopkins.
ESPN reports that both sides have tentatively agreed to terms for a bout.
this is just sad, no one in their right mind can get excited for this fight and i have a hard believing this is the fight either fighter wants. Look for a lack-luster performance on both sides.
And shame on Pavlik's handlers for not inking a more intriguing fight. They missed out on fights w/ Marco Antonio Rubio, Randy Griffin, Sergio Mora, Paul Williams and Winky Wright. All of which, sans the Wright fight, make for better entertainment than Hopkins/Pavlik.
Pavlik is getting a raw deal here imo.

I like this fight, and I gotta give props to Pavlik for taking this fight. He could have knocked over a human bowling pin while waiting for Calzaghe, but this will be an real test for Pavlik. Bhop is still crafty as ever and still one of the harder guys in boxing to fight. I'll definatly watch it.

wow, i'm surprised u like this fight. i wasnt really entertained in Hopkins last few fights. i know he hasnt faced anyone w/ Pavliks power lately but i dont see this one being a major money maker. shit even Pavlik said he wasnt happy about signing this fight

I will still watch this fight, even though I would rather see him face Williams. Calz needs to fight Pavlik and quit bullshitting with fading boxing greats.

glad we finally called out calz for being a pussy hunter. artur abraham needs and deserves a shot at pavlik. aside from the 5 more entertaining, aka money making fights that are available to kelly and his handlers; abraham would/should be in the running for a shot

Well from an action standpoint, no I'd much rather see him fight Abraham because that would provide more fireworks.

But its not always about which fight would be more exciting, its about compedition, and I think this is going to be an incredibly difficult fight for Pavlik because I think Pavlik's relative lack of speed and fluidity will play well into Hopkins' style.

So in the sense that I think this will be a very compeditive fight and a serious test for Pavlik, yes I like this fight. It won't be a Cotto/Margarito but it should be worth seeing.
