View Full Version : Rahman ready to rock Toney.
Hasim Rahman, training in Phoenix, has sparred over 150 rounds while getting ready to tangle with James Toney on Wednesday, July 16 at the Pechanga Resort & Casino. "The Rock is training at a high level," said chief trainer Marshall Kauffman. "He's sparred 12 rounds in a single day a number of times. I like his work rate and I am convinced he will beat Toney next week." It's an important fight, titled 'Last Chance.' "We win, we move on to much bigger fights," Kauffman said. Rahman plans to be Los Angeles on Sunday eve to get ready for fight week activities. The scheduled 12-round NABO heavyweight title bout -- presented by Goossen Tutor Promotions and Don King Productions, in association with Top Rank – will headline an FSN "Best Damn Fight Night" telecast (11PM ET/8PM PT) from the Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, CA. Tickets are $150, $100 and $50

This should be an interesting fight.
Judging by his last outing Im unsure if Toney still has what it takes to beat the naturally much bigger Rahman.
Im unsure if James was just overtrained for that one or if father time has caught up with him.
Wait 4 see...and WAR TONEY!
Beanflicker 07-12-2008, 03:53 PM WAR TONEY indeed! I admit Toney's past his Sell Before date, but he's going to put a beating on Rahman. He's gonna get shooooook
Toney and Rahman talk a little trash...Toneys speech seems a bit slurry.

mg_productions 07-15-2008, 06:57 PM Tony will not win this fight. He has nothing to keep Rahman off him. He's awesome on defense but he got beat down by Sam Peter, who doesn't have much boxing skills.Rahman is better,it all comes down to if The Rock is conditioned.
Beanflicker 07-15-2008, 11:49 PM I admit Rahman is a hell of a fighter and IMO underrated, but what kind of shape is he going to show up in?
mg_productions 07-16-2008, 02:33 PM If he's in awesome shape,he's going to destroy Tony. But he's going to have to be in really, really bad shape for him to not win this fight.
I point to Toney's first fight with Samuel Peter, who had nothing going into the latter rounds, but still put up enough to win imo.In the second,I bought into Toney's,'Billy Blank' aided*the one man who might actually be Blacker than Toney himself* conditioning and thought he'd box circles around Peter, but that was myth, and he got embarassed.
Even if Toney does show up in tip top,it's going to be tough to keep an in shape, game Rahman off of him.
Beanflicker 07-16-2008, 07:02 PM I don't agree with that, Toney whipped Peter's ass in the first fight. All Peter did was swing and miss for most of the night. No one's ever destroyed Toney, and I don't see Rahman being the guy to do it.
Resin 07-16-2008, 09:37 PM Toney's going to get that ass ko'd
Beanflicker 07-16-2008, 10:01 PM We'll see tonight, boys. James Toney all day all day by split decision
Beanflicker 07-16-2008, 10:20 PM Somebody's 6 must go baby
mg_productions 07-17-2008, 01:16 AM Toney got shutdown by Peter on the second go round.
Beanflicker 07-17-2008, 11:44 AM BWAHAHAHAHHAA, good bye Rahman
Somebody's 6 must go baby
Lol doesn't sound as good as "Somebody's 0 must go"
I have no pick for this fight, should be interesting.

MMAF@N 07-18-2008, 02:36 PM Its over, Toney won by a controversial 3rd round TKO.
controversial!? rahman said he couldnt see and didnt want to fight anymore! he tried to get it to go to the judges card cuz of accidental headbutt, but thats up to the judge 1st. he quit before the judge could do that! what a bum. toney started to show his dominance and rahman wanted a way out.
SolitaryIndividual 07-18-2008, 02:53 PM Its over, Toney won by a controversial 3rd round TKO.
that's our guy Toney
Beanflicker 07-18-2008, 08:01 PM Yeah its a weird weird stoppage. The damage was done by a headbutt no question, but Rahman was looking for a way out before the doc even called it. Tough break for Rahman.
Beanflicker 07-18-2008, 08:05 PM To be honest, and this pains me to say it because James toney is my all time fav, I think it was a bad call and they should turn it to a NC.
nah
I like Toney as the winner more
mg_productions 07-19-2008, 02:50 PM I don't really like Toney at all, just saying, but he looked pretty good in the 2nd and 3rd.And he actually looked in shape.Rahman definitely felt the heat.It sounded like he asked the ref if was an accidental headbutt before he said he couldn't see, which sounds like he did indeed want a way out.It looked like it was going to be a long night for Rahman that probably would have led to some permanent damage to his eye.Still think it should be a no contest and they should fight again. If Toney doesn't grant a rematch, then he's a bitch considering the controversy over the Peter rematch.
I didn't see the post fight interviews,I only saw what was on this site, did he say anything about granting a rematch?
although i prefenced Toney to win i think at this stage of their careers that both guys are a notch below the divisions elite..
But then again i thought Toney was pretty much through after the 2nd Peter fight, however he looked pretty good in rds 2 and 3 so maybe he still does have a bit left up his sleeve.
Wait and see.
War Toney!
