National Geography“s Fight Science is a documentary about a team of scientists measuring and analyzing the skills and moves of the best martial artists and most well-known styles in the world!

It hasn“t got any MMA, but it was really educating and enlightning, although it "romanticides" the traditional martial arts abit too much for my taste!

I got it via BitTorrent, give it a go!

Cool thread. I'll mark it as "read" like I did the other 4 on the same subject.

This is a little belated.

I train under Craig and Paul Pumphrey (the two on the show who break all the bricks) and it was good for me to see science backing up what they teach already. I thought that it was a great show.

I have one question about this show:
During Rickson Gracie's bit, Dean Lister is sitting behind him with his shirt off - why was he there? He wasn't mentioned and didn't do anything. I'd have paid good money to see them roll a bit

I enjoyed that.

I like the fact that various styles and techniques were assessed.

Yeah I think they called the bones reconstructing "Wolf's Law". It was pretty interesting

I loved this show.

About measuring what is more powerfull then another is good to know but doesn't say much how effective what style is.

I was more interested in the weapon arsenal and their function.

The whole 3d animation was pretty cool.

Good stuff hope they make a Fight science 2 about MMA or something...

It was cool, especially when they asked what is the best martial art,

I thought it was terrible. It had something good in it too but it tried to make things way too simple.
Comparing the power of strikes when there is so much weight difference? Comparing the kicks when the whole techniques were so different? Many of the arts compared even have similar kicks but they just used different ones to represent each art. Why?

I hated the fact that they made the ninja look like the ultimate warrior but the show was still somewhat interesting...numbers were a bit skewed by the size of the competitors alone tho:\

Fun to watch. The measurement of the power behind punches, kicks, and knees was interesting.

I just wish they focused a little bit more on actual MMA type fighting as opposed to the mystique of more traditional styles. I chuckled at the Ninja.

the main problem is that they were measuring the fighters, not the styles.

of course the tiny asian dude isnt gonna hit as hard as that huge australian, so it doesnt really say anything about kungfu-taekwondo.

plus he was a wushu champion, which is just show kungfu.

Just watched the whole thing. IMO was really awesome to dispell some myths and such. Except for the drunken boxing which according to Jackie's auto biography he made up based on another style.

In wing chun we train iron palm. You hit a bag filled first with mung beans then after time gravel and progressing eventually to iron pellets. We also use an herbal external tonic called dit dar jao. According to my sifu compacted calcium creates an electrical charge and encourages your bones to grow and become denser and stronger. The and the herbs also encourage quick healing I have had amazing results with sprains bruises ect.

We also train iron shit which involves learning to tense certain muscles before the impact of a blow to lessen the impact.

Agreed. And also agreed that the bigger boxer will punch harder then the little tiny chinese dude.
