Cardio is important about 5-6 days a week and lifting about 5 days a week

I try to run at least 3 miles 5-6 days a week (alternating sprint/jog as I go). I also do calisthenics at least 2-3 days too. It all depends on what you want. Fedor runs 10 miles everyday in the mountains and does a workout with dips/pull ups. That's just his base conditioning. If you just want to stay in shape for grappling/kickboxing at a club I don't think you need to be too extreme, and most people can't with work/kids and so forth. Train for what your goals are.

if u train jiu jitsu or boxing/thai boxing u really dont need to do much conditioning unless u dont roll that hard or dont train that hard

unless your training for a fight theirs really no need to do that much cardio besides what u do in class

Personally, I feel that high intensity sprints are amazingly more productive then jogging. I Sprint 100 yards, jog 100 yards, ten times, never letting my heart rate drop, paired with other running techniques. Whatever you feel works is what I would suggest.

I hope you are not serious, what complete bullshit of course you still have to do conditioning in addition to rolling, go watch a high school wrestling team.

He's right about that

and jiu-jitsu, you don't need much cardio, and if you say otherwise, you should shut up.

For MMA:

Sprinting>Jogging.

Anaerobic>Aerobic, Act like you know!

to tell you guys the truth....i don't jump rope that long..... the longest i do is like 30 min and thats only like once a week. i only jump rope about 15-20 min a day when i am fighting i run the bridge to brooklyn then back to mahattan. i am not big on cardio. for me running is different than going all out on the pads while your holder is also trying to attack you.

alrite you gys obv have no idea wat ur talking about...

long distance running helps you maintain your cardio and buiulds it up a lol while wind sprints and the such heavily build your cardio...

and to say a grappling sport doesnt need cardio means u prob arent that good, because every grappling sport relies on explosiveness and ability to push the pace...ask any good bjj guy...

the way i see is that i am an amateur.... why am i going to do so much roadwork, i am training like a pro just to beat some whitecollar guy or some college kid. its weird but some people really don't take their respective martial arts as serious as others. for some its a hobby then others its their life. i have been doing it a while, its kinda boring and everything hurts

i know exactly where youu are coming from bc i havent done any sort of cardio in a long while...bjj has become more of a hobby for now me rather than my life like befre when i was wrestling...

and bc im lazy i have no gas tank and tire out real fast, and when ur tired you lose, and i personally hate losing...thats jsut a simple fact

To do jiu-jitsu, you don't need to be in the best shape, go as instructors, but yet again that is if your just doing JJ for fun.

I'm doing it for an MMA, so yeah I have to have good cardio.

long distance running is good, but sprinting is the right way to build up cardio for mma.

lol ok Im sure you are very tough

*yawn

You gotta do long distance jogging type stuff and short spurts of energy.

I guess since every sucessful fighter jogs and does extensive cardio they must be stupid. I should call Fedor and tell him to stop jogging ten miles everyday because hes wasting his time.

You dont need much cardio for jujutsu? R U crazy? All it takes it for you to almost sub someone and you completely gas out.

wrestling and striking need more cardio.

Jiu-jitsu is leastest of the two that you need cardio.

carlson gracie said that.

he quoted saying, "you don't need to be in the best of shape to do jiu-jitsu".

depends on your style of jiu-jitsu however.

If your grappling with someone who has lesser skill they can still beat you if they can hold on until you gas.

striking arts like kickboxing/taekwondo need a lot more cardio than sat jiu jitsu but wrestling also requires a lot because you are always moving for position not laying in guard etc like i JJ....thats what i like about JJ it is effective for nearly everyone no matter what condition

I was thinking the same thing but an active gaurd will tire you out big time as soon as you go for a sub. Even sprawling makes you tired real quick. Look at how tired guys will get from attempting subs.

I do agree though that wrestling requires way more conditioning, wrestling is like 90% cardio and 10% skill. Guys who know 2 moves will end up state champs because they have insane cardio.

Although your Avatar makes me question your personal life, I have to agree. If you aren't competing than by going balls out in training you can get a shit load of sport specific fitness. More than enough to handle most people.
