anyone have a t1 connection or greater?

I was thinking about getting one so I could host this site from my house

your mom has a t1 connection.

that shit is amazingly expensive, and you only get 1.544 mbps up/down

your best bet would be to get cable modem and go for the most expensive plan. in my area, 15 mbps down/3 mbps up is around $60 with cable.

if you do this, you'll probably want to set up a dedicated linux box. i run a site out of my house. i only have 768 kbps upload on my cable service, which is just fine for me. a site like this one will probably even be okay with that low of an upload, but the faster the better.

we have a t1 line here @ work, but i dunno shit about that stuff. so, don't think i could really help you?

i know for the size of the office and the number of folks using it, our server is down or fucking up way too often, but our "computer tech" says there are no problems. yeah, right!

Go true FiberOptic. You're in the Pac Northwest its probably not that unrealistic.

If you're running a website, its better to have a higher upload speed than normal(home users) since most of the time you'll be uploading websites to the viewers of your sites. I don't think that a T1 could handle ninjashoes, its become too popular and with added load of shoutbox and let's say a ufc ppv, T1 would get used pretty fast. Ferguson's suggestion works as it is cheaper, but look for a higher upload speed than a T1.

I dont think cable would work, theres latency and dependability issues there plus a t1 can always be bonded with more t1 wires to double triple your bandwith etc

most companies start out with a t1 and keep getting more wires bonded together until it becomes practical to move up to t3
