View Full Version : I have a question... about getting into heaven.
hotnewton 06-16-2008, 11:10 AM I was told by my super-religious friend that if you don't believe in god you go to hell (he is roman catholic? christian? I don't know the difference/remember).
I was reading some of the other threads and in one of them, abortion was mentioned.
First I want to know if unborn, aborted fetuses go to heaven due to the fact that they are alive before they are aborted.
If the answer is yes, how? they have no way of believing in god.
Call it a stupid question but I'm just curious. Also. Is my friend right about the believing in god gets you into heaven?

I've often asked myself how innocents could suffer or have no choice. I came to two possible conclusions, either reincarnation, which the bible speaks nothing of, or life is truely expendable and we're ultimately all worthless on our own.

very deep, profound thoughts there, hotnewton. there are no experts on heaven and/or hell that I know of and there are many different opinions and explanations for both. I, personally, do not believe in either. I believe they are symbolic of paradise/euphoria (heaven) and pain/suffering/anguish (hell), but these take place in our everyday lives, so to think that we must wait for death to experience any of this puzzles me. they are both present in our day-to-day living.
you mention aborted fetuses and as a woman, i have often questioned what some people think about the unborn child. I have always heard, in jest probably, that "God" looks after all children and fools. I must laugh a little at the notion that fools are exempt from "judgement", but if there is any group that I think everyone could/would agree is "sin" free would be the unborn.
Along those lines, I've found it interesting that frozen embryos and sperm are used at later dates to aid those who are having problems in conceiving or carrying a child. If that is the case, then where does the "life" begin? how can something that has been "frozen" be alive or be brought to life?
but no, according to the Bible and just about any christian, believing in "God" does not get you a ticket to heaven. Believing is the beginning, from what I understand, but devoting your life to the "word of God" is, again just what I've learned, how you get into heaven.
jetjaguar 06-16-2008, 09:32 PM Hindus and animists believe in "god" just not yweh. Dos that preclude them from a cushy after life? Since hinduism has been around alot longer then judism/christianity maybe the question should be phrased the other way around: dos lack of belief in bramha keep you from having an adventagious reincarnation?

i've been reading into scientology. it has your answers.
xcept68 06-17-2008, 06:15 AM Please ignore all that crap the above posters stated.
A soul knows Christ, and during the age of innocence, where they live sinless, they are judged by the laws written upon their hearts, Since they have never sinned then they would be taken into heaven. I do not know the exact age of innocence. So I could not tell you and I of course know that Only God is the most fair judge above any reasoning we can think of. So no matter what it is, it will be completely fair and just. For God is good, all the time.
On that note, God isn't safe, but He is good.
Just as God struck people dead in the Bible, He can do whatever fits His divine purpose. This is something to consider when you speak about God in the manner that you do.
Also Satan is obedient to God. Just as Satan asked to tempt Job but not kill him. Satan hates us, but Satan is part of God's plan. He wants people that love Him willingly. Without an adversary, then no one would have the chance to love God willingly.

Judoka 06-17-2008, 06:39 PM reincarnation is so much more believable than Heaven/Hell.

But we all have original sin... What about that? Your first statement shows you just wait to post your Pro-Jesus bullshit fueled by a highly biased, highly exaggerated, highly self contradicting book without even trying to understand other peoples points they are making.
I'm sorry to tell you this but those babies are dead. They will become nothing. They dont have souls, they are made of matter, nothing more, nothing less. They will decompose and return to the "circle of life". Its all right there at the begining of the lion king.

reincarnation is a legitimate stage in the meta-philosophical evolution of man. adapting the idea of reincarnation with common sense, one should come to the conclusion that when you die, the molecules composing your body are broken down back into the earth. a soul, a spirit, an afterlife- all complete guesses of unintelligent, uncivilized man.
Judoka 06-17-2008, 06:50 PM good posting.

give me proof that an afterlife exists. give me proof that a spirit exists. how much does it weigh? can i see it?
quit laying out personal attacks based on your far fetched beliefs.

Ignorance is the condition of being uninformed. Hardly a personal attack.

oh. so personal attacks are okay if it's done on the christian side.

No.
GiantRobotDelux 06-19-2008, 06:37 PM No.
if personal attacks are not okay, then why make them? thats hipocrisy.
Judoka 06-20-2008, 01:24 AM Ignorance is the condition of being uninformed. Hardly a personal attack.
You're assuming (again) were all uninformed. I'm extremely informed and i still agree with Weeb. I was a practicing catholic for all of my child hood and most of my teens. I payed attention to the teachings, absorbed what was useful but still never saw any evidence of an afterlife or a soul. People have personalities thats about it.
And Evil if you feel like banning people for trolling you should most definitely start with yourself. You and xcept are the biggest trolls in this subforum. All you do is wait for anything that doesn't agree with the bible and immediately bash any ideas not concurrent with your own.

Example of me making a personal attack?

I don't feel like banning people but I want to keep this section of the forum searous and as a mod enforce the rules. Again, give an example of me bashing anyone personally.

we're all joking when it comes to personal attacks. it's a forum, lighten up.
and yes, you troll as much as any of us. you turn any thread here into a bible debate. even if you feel it's relevant, you still know exactly what will happen when you do it.
just because you're subtle in your personal attacks, doesn't mean your hands are clean.
having a christian moderator is like having a christian president. hypocrisy.

define personal attacks. many would consider calling some ignorant a personal attack. you want good vs. evil? here it is. what is a personal attack (evil) and who decides it?

Generally, a personal attack is committed when a person substitutes abusive remarks for evidence when examining another person's claims. Pointing out someones ignorance is not an abusive remark.

i guess you're jesus here, and you get to decide what is right and wrong.
why should i take what you say to be true?

That's right. Only xcept68 is the 2nd coming of Jesus. We only believe in His word. Evil, if you just log in as Him you can define what is right and wrong and we'll all follow without question.
Judoka 06-20-2008, 05:14 AM I disagree...
how the fuck can you say im not informed? because i dont agree with your point of view? this is very ignorant. Ive read the bible. All of it. More then once. But im uninformed right...? You dont know me or how i was raised. I disagree that Jesus's way is THE correct path. Its one of many paths that will lead to a good life. I dont believe in an omnipotent God so jesus's path does not work for me. So I find my spirituality elsewhere.

it is your problem, you are PERSONALLY ATTACKING my upbringing. As a mod you should know better. Other may take this as a precedent that its ok to bring out personal attacks. I asked you questions you did not answer because you cant. So you just avoided them like you do whenever someone makes a good point that you cant understand.
it is your problem, you are PERSONALLY ATTACKING my upbringing.
When how where?
when it comes to rational debate on christianity and its merits the believers inevitably have to revert to sophistry and sidestepping issues in order to have any kind of appeared effectiveness in their arguements..
Its always the way,it has to be that way..
Judoka 06-21-2008, 09:24 PM When how where?
when you disagreed with my upbringing you called me a liar. I was telling you how i was raised with the teachings of the bible and read it several times. Therefore i am informed. you disagreed. This is calling me a liar and personally attacking my integrity.

I was brought up as a Christian also and because of my disinterest I was not as informed as I thought I was. I feel the same thing is reflected in your beliefes because I truely believe if your a Christian and have true faith there is no way you could turn back to the ways of men. Because you have lost your faith it is my impression that you could not possibly be as informed as you think. Your not a lier and I'm sorry if I gave the impression that I thought you were.
Religion is something ppl should keep quiet about...theres no purpose to trying to argue points or convert others to ur way of thinking.
Religion uses psychological mechanisms that allow the follower to totally believe in doctrine that isnt believable from an unfettered and rational stance or viewpoint.
Rational analysis and critical thinking is replaced by faith.Religion is the practice of non-thought.

it begs one to wonder if religion is making these people dumb, or would religious people find some other reason to ignore common sense if religion was non-existent.

faith is basically saying 'dont try and question or doubt what we tell you just believe and everything will be peachy'.
I think the 'high' and comfort religious ppl get with the concept of heaven and eternal life in paradise serves followers to unwittingly ignore or explain away any logic thats detrimental to the 'high' they're on.
xcept68 06-22-2008, 09:15 PM No point arguing with idiots... bystanders cannot tell the difference. Nothing anyone says will ever sway you away from your dogmatic views. So you keep on believing what you want to believe. Hopefully you will find the truth, sometime soon.

Now this is an interesting point about belief. So once our beliefs are set, we're stuck with them forever? This sounds like a good thread topic.
