so i was thinking the other day about the symbol of the cross and how some people wear it around their neck or get tattoos of it and worship it. well wasn't the cross a device used to torture and kill people? why do we openly support a symbol that was used to torture people? i know jesus died on it and that is why the symbol is now embraced, but didn't he get tortured on it too? why are christians supporting the torture of jesus?

the cross was used as a method of death and some people support it, why? i'm willing to bet that if a person with a cross necklace went back in time, the people would be terrified of seeing a person wear it as a symbol because in their eyes it means torture and death.

IMO it's a horrible symbol even if you believe in jesus because that is what was used to kill and torture your savior. shouldn't you be pissed off about that? it kind of reminds me of the schwasticka. it was a symbol of people who hated and killed jews and jewish people don't wear it or rep it as their symbol. i just don't understand people who wear it and get tattoos of it as it symbolizes many deaths.

your question can be answered with the fact that christians are so proud that they have the audacity to wear a cross like it is a good thing. but more so now, it's a fashionable thing to do.

researching it, you would find the cross is actually an adopted pagan symbol and has no true connection to jesus or the belief that he was killed on a cross; if anything he died upon an upright stake, possibly an upright T.

A pagan symbol of the Tau of the Chaldeans and the Egyptians, a cross was a symbol of the Roman god Mithras and the Greek Attis, and their forerunner Tammuz, the Sumerian solar god, consort of the goddess Ishtar. Conveniently, the original form of the cross symbol was the initial letter of the god of Tammuz. During baptism ceremonies, this cross was marked on the foreheads by the pagan priest.

The cross is a pagan symbol that was adored in Egypt and various pagan religions thousands of years before Jesus was born. The Roman Catholic Church adopted the cross symbol at least 600 years after Jesus was supposedly crucified. Christianity is rehashed paganism and the New Testament is recycled pagan myth.

symbols are interchanged through various religions for the sole fact that people are so uncreative they will steal any aesthetically pleasing shapes and add their own definition to them.

a satan worshiper could take the cross and say it represents their views for it was where their enemy was killed.

if anything, christians should have sun rays as their symbol... but that is a little difficult for them to comprehend, so they go with the easy shape. "dur, let's draw two lines and tattoo them on our arms with silly messages beneath them."

I'v seen crosses from early medieval europe that had rings at both ends so it could be worn as a Thor's hammer or a crucifix depending on present company.
