View Full Version : Who exactly is Carlos Monzon and why is So greatly recognized?
Ŧħє Łєшãŋđσẅsķį 06-10-2008, 03:47 AM Im somewhat fascinated about him as i see many mainstream boxing fans dont know much are talk about him, Im not bashing him, hell i really dont know much about Monzon, all i know is he has 14 title defenses, killed his wife and threw her off a balcony, and beat Nino Benvenuti in Rome. I want to have other people aspect or opinions about why this guy stands among the greats like Hagler,Harry Greb,Ray Robinson,Walker, or hell Lamotta. Like i said i really dont know much about him, if possible give me insight, as im not that big of a boxing fan as others.

Beanflicker 06-10-2008, 03:30 PM I was like you a few years ago, I heard everyone talking about this guy and ranking him up there with my personal #1, Marvelous Marvin, so I looked him up and watched any fight I could find of him. He was just a great fighter, he could do it all from what I've gathered from watching him. He was a skilled boxer, he could fight very well on the inside for a tall guy, his defense was solid, he had heavy hands, solid chin, he was just one of those guys you can tell is a natural fighter. He dominated the middleweight division and only lost very early in his career, winning like 80-something fights in a row.
The craziest thing about him is that he was great despite doing everything a fighter shouldn't do outside the ring. He was a heavy smoker, even during training apparently, hated training and partied most of the time, but still somehow always showed up in great shape. Fucked around and even got shot by either his wife or mistress at some point in his career.
Great fighter, not so great as a person. I have him at #2 of all time behind my man Marvin Hagler
VENDO 06-10-2008, 09:12 PM he was 35-0 in domestic squabbles with his wife.
Disgusting human being.
Freaking murderer.

Ive been watching mostly all his fioghts on youtube and listening to historians talk about him. But do you think he could handle a Marvin Hagler, people say that and ive wach him destroy Eddie Griffith, say that from him beating Griffith, he would probably beat Hagler. Me i say bullshit, but i would love to see him so against a Ray Robinson, or Ray Leonard, who we know is better at welter and for some reason i want to see him square off roberto duran(best lightweight EVER).
ItBurnzWhenIP 06-13-2008, 09:10 AM The reason he was great is that he beat EVERYBODY there was for him to fight at the time. And after winning a clear decision against his potentially biggest rival gave the guy a rematch before retiring and won another clear UD against him. Was one of the few to completely and totally clean out his division.

Fuck yeah!
I still think Hagler would beat him though, but it could go either way.
