View Full Version : Extremely athletic smoker.
Leftcard 05-15-2008, 06:57 AM Have any of you guys ever met one?
This kid in my school smokes 1 or 2 packs of cigarettes a day yet hes very good at sports. I run 10 - 15 miles a day but this guy just completes me when it comes to long distance running or sprinting. Which is what baffles me.
I'm never underestimating a smoker again.
Any shoes members witnessed this kinda shet? like a smoker or some drug addict that has a ridicule amount of stamina or good at sports?
sounds about like me five years ago before i stopped caring about being in shape. i used to run with a couple of my (non-smoker) buddies every day. wed usually do three miles or so. id smoke while i ran, run better than them, and be less winded when we were done.
Chickenjorge 05-15-2008, 07:09 AM lol. wow.
thats crazy.
theres some people that can do things thta ill never understand. (tractor trailer, butterbean, etc)
ItBurnzWhenIP 05-16-2008, 05:00 AM Yeah seen a few. I know a guy that could run 10 miles at a 6 minute mile pace or as fast as 10:30 2 miles. If he was running anything under a 7 minute pace he would smoke while he ran for laughs.
jetjaguar 05-16-2008, 06:37 AM my dad has been a heavy smoker my whole life. He would play hockey with my friends and I and skate rings around us.
pokey 05-16-2008, 06:45 AM i used to have a homie that would bet you he can run full speed without taking the cig out his mouth just so he could get a smoke. he could do it no problem too, i start coughin my ass off after a few mins
maybe he does other things better than you. like eat good? plus you know...the whole genetics thing....

...anyway - we all used to play soccer, run, bike whatever and smoke our lungs out when we were in our teens. That shit catches up with you pretty quick though, as the damage to your lungs gets worse.
hotnewton 05-18-2008, 08:55 AM I've seen it.
Kid I knew in my grade in school smoked like a mother fucker and was an incredible short and long distance runner.
It's genetics I believe.
i had to argue with the last doctor that gave me a chest X-ray. she didnt believe that ive smoked just under a pack and a half a day for the past 12 years. some people are just better suited to handling the effects of cigarettes than others.

Nanoid 05-27-2008, 10:08 PM One explanation might be that even though the absorption of oxygen in the lungs get less efficient when you smoke, the number of red blood cells increases. This tends to cancel out the effect in the short term.
Also, I'm sure everybody knows how much difference breathing pattern makes when running, so maybe he just had a really good breathing technique.
ferg [ADR] 05-27-2008, 11:32 PM i'm not athletic looking at all. i'm a fat dude who smokes a pack and a half a day but i can run fast and a long time with the best of em for some reason. none of my friends can outrun me lol.
gantran 06-07-2008, 02:25 AM I would think it's because he's still young. You say you're both still in school so that's why. See him in 10 years and you'll see a big difference

I'm in the military I see people do it in their 30's. Fuck one guy is like 34 and runs an 11:something 2 mile. And smokes like a pack a day
GiantRobotDelux 06-11-2008, 06:21 AM I smoked for 4 years and then quit cold turkey. I quit because I played pickup basketball a few weeks ago with some 18 year olds and I was getting dizzy after about an hour and a half of hard ball.
I always got away with smoking because used to do BJJ and just really practice my technique instead of going crazy hard all the time.
