View Full Version : Boston crab used to break the guard
Aussie 05-12-2008, 01:24 AM i have been thinking for a while that when your in someones guard, simply just stand up throw your leg over and putt them in the boston crab to break the guard, i havent been able to try it cos i havent been to bjj in months but i think it would be worth a try , it could lead to you taking thier back

jetjaguar 05-12-2008, 03:41 AM you would have to be alot heavier/stronger then your opponent to get a Boston crab. If you did, you wouldn't need to get their back, it's devastating submission in and of it self.

yeah but i dont think he was intentionally going for that move it was more of a freak accident.
mullard 05-12-2008, 09:38 PM I would probably say that it isn't going to happen unless someone has a shitty guard.
Resin 05-12-2008, 10:23 PM yes Xhale we all can't be red belts like you're self.

Obi Narb Kenobi 05-12-2008, 10:55 PM that guy did it to himself, had he opened his guard to sweep he wouldn't have to eat through a straw right now
jetjaguar 05-12-2008, 11:28 PM ouch
Obi Narb Kenobi 05-13-2008, 03:13 AM i guess it could work if you just want to open the guard, but if you try to step over you'll be really off balance and voulnerable to being swept
knockkraut 05-13-2008, 05:28 PM I tried it one time in rolling, it's pretty hard to just step over a guy who's actively fighting back. I'd suggest setting it up with a steel chair to the face.
ninjashoes 05-14-2008, 01:05 AM half crab is supposebly much more practical but I cant really say that Ive seen it ever used in an MMA match perhaps attempted
jukeboxhero 05-14-2008, 04:06 AM It hasn't been said yet so I'll go there and say it...... WAR BOSTON CRAB!
Aussie 05-14-2008, 07:53 AM walls of jericho woooooooooo
danxgerous 05-14-2008, 09:19 AM today i had a guy in a triangle and he stepped over and had me kinda bent like a boston crab, but when you have the triangle, theres so much leverage and i was able to bring him down again.
