View Full Version : Conditioning Challenge Stole From that other forum..

The Challenge
To compete in MMA or any combat sport requires that the athlete be in considerable anerobic and aerobic shape in order to have success (provided your not going to get first round KO's all your career). In order to know where you stand the sick and twisted minds of the conditioning forum have developed a challenge to push you to your limits.
Now this challenge is not supposed to be easy in any regards, we have looked at the best standards that the military has to offer and made them dramatically worse. If you have gas in your veins welcome to the test, if your looking to improve your coniditoning here is a good indication of where you stand.
The test:
100 Push-ups
100 Sit-ups
20 CHINS
2 Mile Run (3.2 km)
Rules:
1. All exercises must be completed in order, no supersetting between exercises
2. You may stop and rest at anytime, this is a timed event.
3. Push-ups: A rep is counted when the person lowers their body to the extent that their upper arms are at least parallel with the ground and then raised back to a point where the arms are fully extended. Your body will have to remain straight throughout the entire rep with your feet spaced no more then 12" apart, failing to do so the rep should be not counted.
4. Situps: Are to be started with both feet braced on the ground, the legs bent at a 90 degree angle, and both hands interlocked behind your head touching the ground. While maintaining contact with the gound with your feet and with hands behind your head raise your upper body so that your head breaks vertical, meaning that your head has exceeded 90degrees to the ground.
5. CHINS: A rep is started from a dead hang, where the arms are fully extended. You then must raise your body using only arm and back strength to the point that your entire head has cleared the height of the bar, then lower yourself back down to the start position. Reps should not be counted if started from standing or if any leg swing is used to raise the body.
6. Running must be done on an track (indoor/outdoor, 200m, 400m). Or done by another method where the distance is known to be true, not a guess. Also running distances with hills should be avoided. If using a treadmil an incline should be used of 1 - 2% to mimick that of real running
7. Timing begins when the first pushup is started, it ends after the run has been completed
This test is supposed to be a challenge, so don't be discouraged by the difficultly. Test your conditioning and post your time to see how you stack up with everyone else. I will update this thread regularly with times so it is easy to compare. A video is the best way to post accuracy of your times and will be indicated as such, if not the honour system will be in effect, if you have posted here regularly i will believe you, if you never post here and can do this in 13 mins i call bullshit and you will not be added.
Best of luck guys.

im training for this right now, who wants to compete with me?
hotnewton 05-08-2008, 03:56 AM hmmmmmmmmm.....
Fuck. I hate running. Shin splints. But I will grab a couple friends and do it.
Cung-Le 05-08-2008, 04:03 AM sounds cool, but i don't have a camera, and even if i did, i dont' think n e 1 of my friends are willing 2 tape me :sifone:
im def not taping it, i trust you guys.
ItBurnzWhenIP 05-08-2008, 04:14 AM I would be right around 20 minutes assuming I'm catching my breath while doing the pullups before the run. I would be alot faster if I didn't suck ass at situps cause I haven't done them in months.
It's gonna be over 30 for me...
kronker 05-08-2008, 06:47 AM HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Too fat.
kermitthefrayer 05-08-2008, 02:49 PM I can't do the chins.... I just bought a bar and installed it for the one armed challenge. But they are hard! Maybe in a few weeks.
banger 05-08-2008, 03:19 PM I'm recovering from a couple of injuries but I should be able to start working out again in a couple of weeks. It would probably be 2-3 weeks after that before I'd be in shape to try this. This test is my motivator, I'll put up my real results (no matter how pitiful) in a month or so. Hopefully I'll be injury free for a while.
Im gonna do it in a month also, thats when i expect my shin splints will be gone.
deegs 05-08-2008, 04:15 PM i'll try it soon. im thinking 30 mins plus. only because i doubt that i can do that 2 mile run in under 20.
hotnewton 05-08-2008, 09:23 PM I will do it in 7.
Just kidding.
7xatleast3.75
pokey 05-08-2008, 10:25 PM yea if it werent for the run i'd try it, i still think i will but i need to get back in shape first

ItBurnzWhenIP 05-09-2008, 01:01 AM There are alot of guys that aren't fat that can't run. Right now i'm fat - but I can still run :sifone:
pokey 05-09-2008, 01:07 AM i just despise it thats all, cigarettes and asthma
dead hang chinups SO FUCKING HARD
Aussie 05-09-2008, 03:55 AM its not that bad i could do it
i would do 50 x2 push ups
50x2 sit ups
10 x 2 chins
than run like a motherfucker
kronker 05-09-2008, 05:45 AM Lot of fat guys on The Shoes.
Hey.
I'm getting better. Slowly but surely wins the race.

danxgerous 05-09-2008, 06:03 AM i think i could probably do that in right around 30 minutes...

I was a thin guy. Then I got fatter. Now I'm tall and a chubby bastard but I'm working it off.
hotnewton 05-10-2008, 05:13 AM My buddy just did it in 35 minutes.
ItBurnzWhenIP 05-10-2008, 11:56 PM Ya'll motherfuckers need to run more lol.

you league guys are all sick freaks - you could win this one
...and I can do about 8 chins - tops
ItBurnzWhenIP 05-11-2008, 12:44 AM The pushups I could do all in 1 go... But the situps would take me forever
I am the suck at situps :(
Aussie 05-11-2008, 01:37 AM you league guys are all sick freaks - you could win this one

ahha yeah this work out is way easier than what we do for fitness at footy training
ItBurnzWhenIP 05-11-2008, 02:28 AM How much time for you Aussie? Next week Friday I will be doing this - Its basically the Army PT test + pullups
GiantRobotDelux 06-11-2008, 06:55 AM I will do this as soon as my hand heals back up.
I estimate that I should be done in under 30mins.. pull ups are easy for me because i'm only 160lbs at the moment.

You need to start eating more Canadian beef. Its got almost as much steroids as Americans so you'll get huge quick.
And maybe get cancer as well but it'll be worth it.
hotnewton 06-11-2008, 10:02 AM My buddy just did it in 35 minutes.
but he cheated hard on the chins. he uses momentum and goes only 1/2 way down... i tried to tell him but he doesn't believe me. he says that doing them from a deadhang is dangerous to your body and causes injuries.
Tom Stall 06-11-2008, 10:41 AM i think i can do it under 30. the hardest part would be the running. can i split the push ups into 50s?
Tom Stall 06-11-2008, 10:51 AM i thought about it carefully if i run at 8 on the treadmill i can probably do the 2 miles in around 15 minutes. the push ups and sit ups are easy but the hardest part is still running
so i think total time would be around 20 min-25 min
hotnewton 06-11-2008, 11:46 AM i think i can do it under 30. the hardest part would be the running. can i split the push ups into 50s?
you can take as much time as needed to do each exercise. with as long of a rest period in between.
but you cannot superset.
so...
you can do you 100 pushups in sets of 10 if you wish.
do all your situps in one go
your chinups in sets of 3
and then run...
or however you choose
but it has to go in order.
hotnewton 06-11-2008, 11:52 AM i thought about it carefully if i run at 8 on the treadmill i can probably do the 2 miles in around 15 minutes. the push ups and sit ups are easy but the hardest part is still running
so i think total time would be around 20 min-25 min
if the running takes you 15 minutes. I highly doubt you will finish in under 30.
I'm not being a dick or anything and I have no idea what your fitness level is... but my friend said the exact same thing and with cheating he finished in 35 minutes. I reckon it would've taken him 45 if he did the chins right.
But. 5-10 minutes to do 100 pushups, 100 situps and 20 chins is pushing it no matter what your level of fitness.
Can't wait to see what you do it in though.
P.S. Just mathematic alone. If each situp or pushup takes an average of 3 seconds (taking into account how tired you will be near the end) that's 10 minutes right there. That's assuming you bang out each set of 100 with absolutely no prolonged/any rest periods.
The chins from a dead hang are a lot harder than you can imagine as you are not allowed to use leg momentum and each one you have to drop right to the bottom.

and sorry... that post kinda makes me seem like I am an elitest or a know-it-all or something.
I'm not. I've just watched a person do this. And was shocked at how quickly it exhausts your body.

i can do 3 sets of pushups max out, squat thrust and jumping squat/claps. it was like 30-45 second per exercise. my numbers were 110 the first set around 170 2nd set then i got 230 total the last set.
i can do a lot of push ups. so i can break the 100 into 2 or put strain on myself with one set.
the situps is no problem i think. i usually do two sets of 80 each on a decline bench.
i dont really do chinups so i gotta try that and see. i think this is going to be the big variable
at 8.0 i can go for whatever time until the last 3 minutes then turn it to 10.0 since i dont have to do anything else. i am pretty sure i can do it under 30 but i haven't been running recently. i usually just jumprope for half an hr or 45 min straight but i am sure i can do the treadmill at 8.5 close to 9 for around 10 min then last two-three min change it to 10.0
u know what. let me try this out at the gym and i will get back to u
It's a lot harder than it looks real talk.
ItBurnzWhenIP 06-11-2008, 04:22 PM last time I did the 2 mile timed it was 1330... But then I had that fat fuck jump on my back and I haven't done shit since.
