View Full Version : Puppy linux
ninjashoes 05-07-2008, 07:17 PM I just tried puppy linux for the first time. Its super small so you can boot it up from a usb drive. So basically you can dedicate about 80 mb on your flash drive and carry a complete os with all your web bookmarks and shit around in your pocket. It works completely from ram so yo dont even need a hard drive in the computer.
pokey 05-07-2008, 10:52 PM whoa thats cool. ima have to check into that, im not too computer savvy. i would appreciate if you could post more info on it
ninjashoes 05-08-2008, 11:29 AM you just download the cd, set your bios to boot up the cd then when your in puppy you go to setup and creat a boot from your usb flash drive
I had to make a small adjustment to the bootup file, that was pretty confusing
deegs 05-08-2008, 02:29 PM how does this work with grub?
ninjashoes 05-08-2008, 02:53 PM how does this work with grub?
uh not sure, I have it booting form a usb drive so it will boot up before the harddrive that has grub on it, if theres no usb drive then it boots into grub like normal
if I'm on the road I can pop it in to a computer and have all my firefox bookmarks , some saved documents and a small selection of music ready so I can work no matter where I am at
ninjashoes 05-08-2008, 03:28 PM another cool thing about it is that you can look at porn or this forum on someone elses computer or at work without leaving a trace behind since it loads up to memory and everything is completely erased when you log out
deegs 05-08-2008, 04:14 PM this sounds like all kinds of cool

ninjashoes 05-28-2008, 06:42 PM there should be some way to choose how you boot up into linux

ninjashoes 05-28-2008, 06:54 PM are your bios configured properly to boot off the disc?
was the disc burned right?(probably was)

when you start up your comp you should be able to press delete or something to get into bios settings then you have to make sure they are set to boot up from cd before your hard drive

yeah its alot of fun to play around with, its not really practical for alot of things yet but puppy is an example of something Linux is perfect for
Ferguson [GDR] 06-07-2008, 04:23 AM puppy linux does indeed rock pretty hard. not much bigger than damn small linux. damn small is still the ultra tiny distro of choice for me though, especially on really old systems.
