Ok i am a born southpaw i write with my left. My strongest hand is my left. SO here it is ive been training with my boxing trainer a while. He teaches everyone orthodox and i was fine with it but after a while i told him if he could switch me up to southpaw. He is old and i have respect for him and i dont tell em nothing else or complain. So is it because he is he odesnt know how to teach it? Can i get tips tp l;earn southpaw?

I don't mean to sound rude to you or anything but I dont really understand what you typed.

You claim to be a natural born southpaw...... You go on to say that you're trainer teaches everyone "orthdox", usually when i hear this in boxing i automattically think "Southpaw", when someone says his fighting stance is or style is "unorthodox".

You then go on to say if could switch you to southpaw?

Rephrase you're paragraph and come back.

Unorthodox = southpaw

Orthodox = standard

Do you really need to fight southpaw? Do you not fight effectively orthodox?

ah i see i was thinking of something totally different.......... he should just stand whatever way he feels the most comfortable and try to explain to his boxing coach.

Are you right or left handed? Do you use both hands equally a well?

man,i dont even think it matters.if you feel comfortable in a certain stance then that is the one you should use.

i don't know much about boxing but some of the best kickboxers use southpaw stance (crocop and JLB).

i think it really sucks and show lack of professionalism that your coach refuses to teach you how to fight like this.

thats just my opinion.

I always though everything was the same but reverse, isnt your opponent the one who gets thrown off from you leading with your power hand?

Oldschool boxing coaches force left handers to fight from an orthodox stance. It's just how the old guys do it. A younger coach should have no problem teaching you from a southpaw stance. As a fighter you have to decide what works best for you.

Yes i am a lefty. My strongest hand is my left. In conventional stance i am good with hooks and the straight right. But in southpaw i feel my jab is quicker and i could set up that huge left. What do you think i am also considering using the monkey defense.

I say use whatever you feel is best at the time. Sometimes is better to parry a punch or block with your forearm/elbow but other time you can counter much quicker if you slip the punch instead. It depends alot not only on what your style is but also your opponent and how you think he will react and how he defends.

His power hand is his left one, duh. He leads with his weaker "jab" hand (in this case his right)

I think anyone mixing their shit up is better - and a lot of fighters do it these days to try and get an advantage.

I remember when I was in Buffalo - I was drinking a beer with Bob at Wild Wings, switched the drink from right to left, and all of a sudden my brother paid for the meal. Southpaw definitely has its' advantages.

Learn to fight orthadox because it gives you the weapons you talked about - the stronger lead hook (which is a great weapon) but as far as fighting goes, people have trouble with Southpaws you wanna be unorthadox your coach is a tard for trying to train you out of it.

I love when a boxer can do both. Really gives him options in the ring. Antonio Tarver over the weekend comes to mind. Switching from his natural southpaw to orthodox for a round or two kind of confused his opponent and bought him some time to rest without really giving up much if any points.

Yea learn BOTH but keep to the one you feel most comfortable. You never know when ur gonna throw a punch so hard you end up in the opposite stance. You know before i learned boxing I used to fight southpaw, now that I know how to box I fight orthodox and when I switch it feels really alien to me. IDK maybe I just suck.
